I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

That’s what you got from the article and my comment? Wow. Ok
Your comment wasn't serious, or if it was, you've obviously misunderstood what most people are saying. The reality is that a majority of the unvaccinated are Trump supporters, but nobody reputable has said that there aren't factions of non-supporters that are also hesitant to get vaccinated.

As to DeBlasio's requirement to show proof of vaccination, I applaud it, because it will greatly reduce the spread of the virus. Anyone of any color and ethnicity can get the vaccine, and if you want to go to establishments, it is very easy. His policy isn't racist. It is responsible. People of color are not forbidden from getting the vaccine, so no one will be impacted unless they are being irresponsible.

While I think DeSantis is an idiot, it seems like he does have the authority to forbid mandates, just like he has the authority to issue mandates. On the other hand, I think Florida residents do have a right to sue him for that policy.

Lin Wood tells his followers to avoid hospitals at all costs.

I really, really don’t get the politicization of masks. Nobody likes wearing them, but it’s necessary.

Some schools go back on August 5th????

Growing up in Maryland the first day of school was always the day after Labor Day, the way God intended

After I graduated they played around with it being the week prior - one year it was the Friday before labor day. Went to school one day then a 3 day weekend, don't know who thought that was a good idea

It was that way in Louisiana as well. Next thing you know, school was starting in August and public schools were in uniforms. Thank goodness I graduated right before that happened.

GA, I'm pretty sure I'm older than you but I don't ever remember 1st day of school being after Labor Day in the New Orleans area....particularly high school because I lamented the fact that I had to do summer school every year because of honors classes and then when it was over, band practice and then having 1 week of summer vacation before going back to school. Now, granted, I went to a catholic high school so maybe public schools were different but I don't remember schools in Orleans or Jefferson starting after Labor Day.
