I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

I live in a very pro Trump area. My retirement job is at a local grocery store 20 hours a week or so. It is very common to see people without masks and refuse to wear a free one. What I cannot get figured out is what kind of person, if they know wearing masks in large numbers decreases cases and therefore the mortality and morbidity of the virus, what kind of person would make it a political issue and refuse to wear one? Had Trump came out as soon as the science evolved and encouraged mask wearing, the Trump backers would be wearing masks in the shower and to bed at night, not to mention to my grocery store. I really don't like the mandate either, but at this point I don't think the Trump people would wear masks anyway. Silly thing to be arguing about and Americans to be dying over. But here we are.

It's just entitled behavior as far as I'm concerned. If there's a 1% chance you wearing a mask can help 1 person, how is that not worth it? The only answer is you think your "personal choice" to not wear a mask is more important than protecting your fellow Americans. I have some issues with breathing at night, and the medicine I'm on for it is an immunosuppressant - my decision to go the grocery store shouldn't have to put me at risk because someone just doesn't feel like doing the simple task of wearing a mask.

I think covid money will be withheld if they don’t follow cdc standards. That is the only way it will work. It is actually what Ricketts did to local municipalities who were mandating masks in government buildings. He withheld money from them. They quickly obliged.
my guess is Biden would even by pass the governor for cities and metro areas who implement the standards.

So if humans exploded like a grenade when hitting asphalt at more than 30mph, these people would still protest seatbelts, right?

It worked for drinking age laws. I don't see why it can't work for masks.

In GA, we work out, shop, go to restaurants, go to work, school and die without masks.

    Fixed it for her

In GA, we work out, shop, go to restaurants, go to work, school, knowingly infect others who then get sick and even die without masks.

My body, my choice? Never would have thought she was in favor of abortion as well....

As if those are the same thing. The politicization of masks is just over the top. I hope that idiot gets censured and please keep her far away from any committee positions.

This is what we're dealing with folks.

Georgia has a positivity rate of 9.3% that is trending up. They have never dipped below 5%, a level that some say is adequate testing. They are 6th for most total cases while being 33rd in tests/1M population. Lastly, this Rep. is an idiot.

BTW, Pelosi seems to have announced they will have the dinner for freshman reps in spite of the pandemic. This is so stupid, IMO. People are giving up family gatherings, and they want to go ahead with their fancy dinner? Come on.... so tone deaf.

I know the Rs are doing the same, but I expect them to act like they’re ignorant.

Edited: Ds changed it to a carry out box dinner, after listening to reason.
