Election Night (+4) in America - Result: Biden Elected President (12 Viewers)

It certainly looks like Biden is going to get the win at this point

My girlfriend made in interesting point

Maybe this way is the best

A lot of us were very worried about the potential for violence on Election Night, with plenty of places boarded up hurricane style

And if the race was called for Biden on Tuesday maybe there would have been

But this slow trickle of information, the slow counts diffuses the rage, anger, tension and raw emotion of it all and when the winner is finally announced the aftermath is nowhere near what it would have been

    That certainly makes sense

No it's not. There is no way to know election results immediately after the election concludes. There will always be a lag time. Different time zones alone make that a perpetual truth regardless of any changes to the voting system.

It's a direct product of this lack of a patience and/or a logistical understanding of what it takes to protect the integrity and accuracy of the process and just how important it is to do that.

When it comes to elections, we as a society need to check our demand for instant gratification.

I think our problem boils down to opposing interests:

    (1) We want results fast (so fast that they're nearly real-time as reported in the news);

    (2) We are compelled by democracy to have accurate results (so we will have to re-check and otherwise confirm initial results), and

    (3) We are resistant to technology that would theoretically improve both of those interests because we have deeply ingrained human instincts that votes need to be tangible and handled by a known universe of people, and trusting them to a system by phone or blockchain is dangerous.

When you add in the new concerns about Covid and how those accommodations brought new stresses to the system, it's not surprising that it's not an ideal resolution based on time. But I agree with you that this is just part of the process.

For example, many states (including those still counting) have rules that prohibited the counting of mailed ballots before election day. In Michigan for example, state election officials urged the state legislature to allow early counting of mailed ballots so that the state wouldn't get behind and have to count the mass of mailed ballots after election day, as state law provided. Well the legislature (led by Republicans) refused this accommodation.

He did, but after that he said,

(not verbatim) "There's 1,700 votes within that 7,000 that were just brought over from State Farm Arena that has gone through signature something something."

Then I thought he said, (again, not verbatim), "Also note, Fulton County has 3K something provision ballots that is in this blah blah blah status, which means the voter has to take some action before acceptance."

If they haven't been accepted, I can't see how they're included in the count.

They may be talking about ballots that were rejected and the voter has a certain amount of time to “cure” the ballot. I am getting emails from democratic committees and whatnot asking for volunteers to help people “cure” their ballots. I have seen tweets with a phone number to call if your ballot was rejected so you can get help making it right. This state is going to be that close.

As of 2:43 central time, Trump's lead in Georgia is just under 13k, with about 100k votes remaining to be counted. Biden will probably get at least 70k of those votes, so I think Biden will win by over 20k votes.

Trump is up 108k in Pennsylvania, with about 550k left to count. Biden will probably get 400k of those, so Biden should win by more than 100k in Pennsylvania.

While everyone is focused on Pennsylvania and Georgia, does anyone know what the hell is going on in Nevada?

Where are you getting those figures?

If Biden wins, then as an added, petty bonus, this way draws out Trump's misery over losing.

Also, just to keep myself busy I have been reporting all the tweets which have conspiracy theories and election disinformation. (It passes the time and gives me some petty satisfaction). Trump is now trying to bypass Twitter labeling his tweets as disinformation by not using his own account.

I have no idea. Let this be a lesson to all state election boards, get your stuff together so we aren't waiting a week on a small state to count a few hundred thousand votes. Sooner or later, violence will break out if they aren't making progress. The only reason it hasn't is because Trump needs those votes counted.

I don't think those Georgia numbers are correct. The SoS was just on like 30 minutes ago and said there were like half that number in outstanding ballots.

Haven't seen anything on PA though.

I think this is how his brain works, but who the hell knows?
