this was the first comment out of my mouth this morning

I told martha that I couldn’t think of a right politician that would drive people out and to the polls. A charismatic demagogue like trump is appealing but rare. Maybe there is someone there I don’t know and will emerge.

but now that the bar has been set for someone in the vein of trump to get voters out is, I think, a problem.

is the voter turnout we are seeing a high water Mark for republicans? If so then they also need to reconcile how that gets the opposition out to vote.

personally, I think it is better if the GOP alters its messaging to be more inclusive and grow the party rather than rely on the electoral college and voter suppression and litigation and etc.

I think there is a real dilemma here.
I think opposition to COVID responses like wearing masks and the fabled "lockdown" motivated a lot of rural Americans to vote. Take that away and I don't think this election is nearly as close. I think this was the last hurrah for the current platform/messaging of Republicans and rural America.

Also factor in that rural America is a quickly decreasing percentage of the voting population.

St. Clair, Charlevoix and Monroe counties in Michigan are more Republican (like 60%+), but they don't have the numbers to push the needle much.

Now, the Senate seat may be a bit different.

But you also have Gensee County, which is now +2 for Biden with 78% in, and about 400k people total. So, between them and far more Democrat Friendly Wayne county looking good for both Biden and maybe for Peters.

Why hasn’t NC been called? MIV. NC requires post marked by Nov 3rd and received by Nov 12. Now look at the MIV splits. Ds return rate below Rs rate may not hold up. There could be votes in the mail.

Yeah, I think the networks need to nut up an call MI and WI. It's clear those will be in the Biden column.

I think PA is going to Trump. Biden is too far behind there imo. He'll make it close.

GA is gonna be the closest, I think. Could go either way.

I am seeing 270 to win calling ME2 for Trump and ME for Collins.

    @UncleTrvlingJim -

Did it show that high votes don’t favor Dems?

I mean Dems are going to win the Presidency with a huge majority in the popular vote, pick up a seat -minimum- in the Senate and held serve in the House during the highest turnout is ages.

that sounds like a good day for the group that could screw up a sure thing better than anyone not named Matt Ryan

ETA- those seats in GA will go to a run off and she (Loeffler) will win.

I think conventional wisdom is that a huge turnout election like we just had would mean a landslide Democrat win. Instead it's a narrow Presidential win, a slight loss in the House (losing seats), and pretty much a push on the Senate (unless they pick up the two Georgia seats).

It's not bad for Democrats obviously, but it's not exactly as good as at least I assumed it would have been for Democrats.

I assume that the Wisconsin SoS hasn't gotten the information out to the media. Besides saying that Biden won, did the SoS give the current tally?

Looks like she has now. CNN jumped from 97% in to 99% within minutes of their interview.

They're interviewing the Michigan SoS now. There are some smaller counties out, but the overwhelming majority of the votes are coming from Kent County (Grand Rapids) and Detroit (and not Wayne County).

The networks get their counts from a 3rd party service. Their feeds are controlled by those companies. Certain networks all use the same one. I think abc and cnn use the same one.

I thought for sure she committed political suicide by expressing "concerns" but then having no spine and voting how trump wanted regardless. I guess the people of Maine liked that sort of stuff.

I think what it shows is Democrats can’t automatically assume changing demographics mean they are a shoe-in. The Latino vote in Miami Dade and other parts of the country prove that minority groups are just as complicated as whites to convince to vote one way or another.
