Didn't really see a place for this so I thought I would start a thread about all things LGBTQ since this is a pretty hot topic in our culture right now

    https://www.cnbc.com/2021/06/17/sup...y-that-refuses-to-work-with-lgbt-couples.html

    • The Supreme Court on Thursday delivered a unanimous defeat to LGBT couples in a high-profile case over whether Philadelphia could refuse to contract with a Roman Catholic adoption agency that says its religious beliefs prevent it from working with same-sex foster parents.
    • Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in an opinion for a majority of the court that Philadelphia violated the First Amendment by refusing to contract with Catholic Social Services once it learned that the organization would not certify same-sex couples for adoption.

I will admit, I was hopeful for this decision by the SCOTUS but I was surprised by the unanimous decision.

While I don't think there is anything wrong, per se, with same sex couples adopting and raising children (I actually think it is a good thing as it not an abortion) but I also did not want to see the state force a religious institution to bend to a societal norm.

Well, it depends... they surely could do it just as PR stunts... but also, athletes are public figures. Kids cheer for them, see them on TV, look up to them, try to emulate them,... so, very basic example, DeMario Davis goes to a public school and reads to kids... a few of them would probably think to themselves "boy, DeMario likes to read, I want to read like DeMario".

And there are a lot of athletes who do this quietly.
a lot of people teach their kids gay people like drag queens are the boogeyman. maybe by a Drag Queen reading a book, that kid could be like, wow, thats just a person.
Just out of curiosity, do you think the Drag Queens have an ulterior motive? Do you think their motive it to turn kids gay or turn them into Drag Queens, or is it simply reading a book to kids so they will know they are just people. I seriously doubt a kid sees a drag queen reading a story to them and that makes them want to be gay..
There are people who don't want black people reading to their kids because they are scared they may teach them CRT.

To say Drag Queens do it only as PR stunts is just dumb. Sure some may, but just like atheles, politcians and celebrities, some do it as PR stunts, some do not.. do you think DD does it as a PR stunt? I don't think so. But if i saw Tom Brady doing it, i would absoluely think it was a PR stunt.
Kids may look up to celebrities and athletes, but if a non celebrity is reading a book to kids they don't look at the librairian or the mom who is a secretary or the dad whos a salesman and think, i wanna be like that person. thats just the way it is.

Before you run out of what abouts... what's the point of having specifically drag queens read to children? Do they bring something to the table that others don't?
what does having a random mom or dad read to them, what do they bring to the table? what does Suzy homemaker bring to the table? what does Joe the Plumber bring to the table?
let me guess, there is an AGENDA!!!!!!! lol...

I've been, and the event was to the benefit of all who attended not just the drag queens.
my wife has taken our kids to a Drag Brunches. And not one of them tried to turn my kids gay..lol
They ate brunch the Drag Queens danced, adults drank mimosas, everyone had a good time. I am sure System Shock would want kids banned from an event like that, but couldn't care less if someone brought their kids to Twin Peaks where that is 100% sexualized. if Twin Peaks doesn;t make your daugter want to be a stripper, then Drag Queens aren't gonna make your son gay.
I guantee if they banned reading from anyone who is a member of the KKK, the right would lose their minds...

Dear god, not... mimosas! Think of the children!

A random mom or dad, Suzy homemaker, Joe Plumber, they reading stories to children, the event is about reading to children. Drag queen story hour t is about drag queens' exposure to children.

I'll as too, the video is 8:39 minutes long, only touching upon drag queens for ~20 seconds. Why so focused on drag queens?

It surely sounds like the event was all bout reading to the children.

Don't be sure of shirt and don't make stupid equivalency scenarios. But this is typical... "don't agree 100% with my ideology? NAZI!"

So answer the question, would you be ok with laws forbidding KKK memebers having story hour? Since you brought up Nazi's, would you be ok with laws banning skin heads from having a story hour? and not just banning, i'm talking about making it illegal by jail like they are trying to do with Drag Queens.
So forget the video, lets have a seperate conversation then..

What the hell are you going off about? Who said anything about enacting laws or banning anything?

The highlighted part is the problem, and really, your problem, that because I don't agree 100% with your ideology, you immediately lump me with the radical right wingers. I never said anything about banning anyone or enacting any sort of law against anything.

Two employees of a rightwing youth organization who harassed and assaulted a queer professor last year agreed to a diversion program and admitted they were guilty of the acts.

Turning Point USA’s Kalen D’Almeida and Braden Ellis accosted the Arizona State University (ASU) professor David Boyles last October, hounding him about his sexuality and the classes he teaches. Boyles is an English instructor and the co-founder of Drag Story Hour Arizona.

At one point, D’Almeida pushed Boyles to the ground, bloodying his face. Boyles posted an image of his injuries online at the time, saying his physical injuries were “relatively minor” but that he felt “angry, violated, embarrassed and despairing at the fact that we have come to normalize this kind of harassment and violence” against the LGBTQ+ community.

Both D’Almeida and Ellis signed diversion agreements with prosecutors that acknowledge they committed the offenses and enter them into an educational program to avoid convictions, Phoenix TV station 12News reported.

D’Almeida, who was charged with misdemeanors for assault, harassment and disorderly conduct, and Ellis, charged with misdemeanor harassment, had previously pleaded not guilty and, in the immediate aftermath of the incident, the organization said Ellis, who works as its cameraman, would pursue charges against Boyles.

Boyles told the Guardian he was “disappointed but not surprised” that the county attorney pursued “the lightest possible slap on the wrist” for the Turning Point employees, but that he was gratified to see that “the two hateful losers who stalked, harassed, and assaulted me at my place of work last October have admitted their guilt”……

so you agree there should be no laws banning Drag Queen story hour. I am glas we are on the same page then.

The word you are looking for is volunteer.

They are volunteering to read to children. Something that is incredibly important and in woefully short supply.

When I lived in Knoxville, TN my wife took my girls to story time every Thursday to listen to Miss Linda read and dance and move their bodies. She was a semi-retired librarian. She wore princess gowns, dressed up like Snow White or a fairy every time without fail. She gave herself Betty Boop red circles on her cheeks.

She volunteered to read to children dressed up in costume. Explain to me the difference because I'm not that smart. I know a child couldn't explain why one is an abomination and the other would bring children from other counties and they had to use the main library to house all of the children.

I am not looking for any word.

For one (anecdotal, I know, but ... ) I've never seen drag queens in Disneyworld.

Here we go again. Why do you use the word abomination?

And I reiterate, the video I posted had ~20 seconds on drag queens, the point the video made has not even been remotely touched, and yet here we are one more time with the defense of drag queen story hour, conveniently ignoring the last couple of secs of the part about drag queens, which goes with the overall theme and point of the video.

i like you posted this, because it shows how people focus on the exception rather than the normal. Even you know this kind of stuff is the exception and not the norm. Like Boy scout leaders and Priests who molest children is the exception of the trade, not the norm.

But i still can't understand why you are still wondering why we are focusing on this.. YOU POSTED IT IN THE LGTBQ THREAD. obviusly you want to focus on that part of the video, otherwise you wouldn't have posted it in this thread... And there is nothing wrong with expanding the discussion of the topic, it is done in EVERY SINGLE thread.
So if not to focus on LGTBQ part of that video, please tell us what the video suggestes?
