Elon Musk struck a deal on Monday to buy Twitter for roughly $44 billion, in a victory by the world’s richest man to take over the influential social network frequented by world leaders, celebrities and cultural trendsetters.

Twitter agreed to sell itself to Mr. Musk for $54.20 a share, a 38 percent premium over the company’s share price this month before he revealed he was the firm’s single largest shareholder. It would be the largest deal to take a company private — something Mr. Musk has said he will do with Twitter — in at least two decades, according to data compiled by Dealogic.

“Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated,” Mr. Musk said in a statement announcing the deal. “Twitter has tremendous potential — I look forward to working with the company and the community of users to unlock it.”

The deal, which has been unanimously approved by Twitter’s board, is expected to close this year, subject to a vote of Twitter shareholders and certain regulatory approvals.

The blockbuster agreement caps what had seemed an improbable attempt by the famously mercurial Mr. Musk, 50, to buy the social media company — and immediately raises questions about what he will do with the platform and how his actions will affect online speech globally.

If Musk does what he claims he wants to do it will be a big improvement and good for free speech.

So now Taibbi and Musk broke up and Taibbi is leaving Twitter.

So this fairly short article lays out what Taibbi got wrong in his reporting on the “twitter files”. It is basically that he got the entire premise wrong. It was unbelievably sloppy reporting.

This interview outlines the way Musk evidently operates. My guess is that someone from the alt right, possibly even Catturd, told Musk that NPR was government run, and he just went with it. Without even the cursory Google search. That this man somehow became a billionaire is just crazy, as he seems to lack even basic intelligence and leadership.

That's a good interview.

A big point to make in general is that if ANY company did the following:

1. Gave journalist restricted, and curated access to their data
2. Requested the journalist to publish their findings on their platform
3. The journalist do ZERO fact checking. I don't know of a single twitter file journalist that reached out the FBI, etc for comment.

This would be called propaganda.

I personally actually agree with Taibbi and Greenwald that the neoliberal side of the DNP does have some authoritarian tendencies. I completely disagree that the Republicans are somehow a lesser of two evils. Both of those guys need editors, and a reality check. After finding out how much money is floating around in the conservative online debate bro sphere. My guess is they both get big checks from the right, and don't disclose it.

The fact Taibbi couldn't bring himself to offer the smallest critic of Elon was damning. He will never be taken seriously as a journalist again in many circles.

Already Matt’s ”bros” are out defending him and even claiming he “owned” Hasan, lol.

He was hilariously unprepared for the interview. Out of all the questions by Hasan, how did he fail to have to an answer to the one question he asked to come on discuss? I honestly laughed at that part of that interview. It had reached parody sketch levels at that point.

Rogan's bro's, and Taibbi are now officially broken up with Elon.

Substack came out with something like Twitter called Notes. Elon freaked, and won't let you link to Substack from Twitter, and Twitter links are broken on Substack.

This is a super rare National Review link from me.

P.S. This is so delicious after that "I like Elon. He is my friend.".

Elon is also posting DMs between him and Taibbi. I don’t know how people get to adulthood with absolutely no common sense. Yeah, Matt, the billionaire is your friend and he’s totally not using you. It’s your scintillating personality, not your willingness to do him a favor. 🙄

"Saving" Free Speach is different when its other people free speech..lol

This is the desired effect. Twitter won’t be fit to use pretty soon, at least not by anyone interested in any viewpoints except those held by Musk. That second tweet sums up the propaganda being pushed by opponents of the US. It should sound familiar to anyone who has been reading SFL’s posts on here.

I think the US is thinking of banning the wrong social media company. Instead of TikTok, take a look at Twitter, who is now funded by the Saudis.

Another one leaves. By the time he is done, it'll just be 24/7 right wing, fringe conspiracy garbage.
