I will admit, I didn't know anything about these these strings of attacks and the murder of elderly Asian American out west. Really disturbing. In most cases, they have caught sub human scum that have committed these crimes.
In the case of the murder of Ratanapakdee, I sincerely hope the death penalty will be sought, although that is not possible in the state of CA.

"One day after a man murdered eight women in Atlanta, six of whom were Asian American, Christopher Hamner posted on Facebook that we've "all had bad days but it never justifies hate crimes." A day earlier, he allegedly committed a hate crime against an Asian American woman in Seattle. It wasn't his only alleged victim. (Source: Hamner's Facebook)

One day after eight women were murdered in Atlanta, six of whom were Asian American, Christopher Hamner posted on Facebook that we’ve “all had bad days but it never justifies hate crimes.” But the day before, Hamner allegedly committed a hate crime against an Asian American woman in Seattle. It wasn’t his only alleged victim.
On Facebook, Hamner appears to be a model Black Lives Matter activist and progressive. He is an enthusiastic supporter of President Joe Biden and loathes former President Donald Trump. He repeatedly says he abhors hate. But his online virtue signaling does not match with the hate crime charge he now faces in Seattle.

Hamner, who is Black, is charged with victimizing three Asian American women on the basis of their race. This is the latest local anti-Asian American hate crime allegation flying in the face of the activist and media narrative blaming white supremacy or Trump supporters."

I am sure this guy has some weird mental issue, the fact that it is only women he seems to want to attack is strange.

Why do you intentionally only post black on Asian hate crimes?

What are you trying to prove?

I'm not sure what @Farb is trying to do, but the extremely weak opinion piece shared is explicit about what it's trying to prove:

"They argue that Trump’s use of “China virus” explains the antagonism towards Asian Americans. But a look at the hate crime incidents show that narrative unsupported."

Except that's an obvious fallacy directed at a straw man right from the start. Trump's use of "China virus" is inflammatory, irresponsible, and will have significantly contributed towards anti-Asian prejudice.

That does not equate to "directly caused all prejudice towards Asian Americans which wouldn't have existed at all otherwise." That's an absurd straw man.

All looking at selected incidents, where the writer of the opinion piece thinks Trump's deliberately prejudiced rhetoric may not have been a factor, indicates is that Trump's shameful rhetoric isn't the only factor in anti-Asian prejudice. Well, duh.

If we're being generous, the implication they're making is then that if something isn't the only factor, it can be disregarded, but that's also wrong; if someone pours petrol on a small fire causing it to become a much bigger fire, they remain entirely culpable for the consequences of their actions in doing so. We don't say, "Well, there was already a little fire, so no harm."

So it's an inherently flawed piece, targeting a straw man, and using the inherently flawed approach of looking at limited incidents to do so. A more considered look at hate crimes - as we've already seen in this thread - naturally shows the writer to be wearing blinkers.

I'd add that it also doesn't account for racist rhetoric and sentiment not remaining confined to particular groups defined by other characteristics. While Trump's inflaming prejudice and racism will have inevitably had the most impact within his own supporters, it was widely spread and heard not just nationally, but internationally, and will have had an impact beyond that group.

Yea, I’m just trying to see if @Farb will say it out loud.

I thought it had been said the Asian hate was either due to Trump or white supremacy.
    I don't think so.

Are you sure you're not conflating "X and Y are causing an increase in Z" with "Only X and Y can cause Z"? Because that would be wrong.

I personally found that article interesting because in my experience, the people that shout 'racist', make money hand over fist denouncing racism or anti-racist, or whatever new mushy mouth sayings are created now, are actually the most racist among us. That is all. No straw man. I thought I have been pretty clear on my opinion for awhile.

I also thought about putting this in the BLM/Peaceful thread but thought it would make more sense here.

    Guess we were wrong.

Why don’t you tell us your theory on why anti-Asian hate crimes have increased recently?

Curious, what do you really mean by "actually the most racist among us?" OK so you're basically talking about people on the left there, correct? And you're also talking about racism directed towards white people really, right (just stripping everything away that seems to be what we're talking about, if I'm misunderstanding I apologize)? So essentially you believe that as a whole the loud people on the left who you believe aim their racist agenda at white people are more racist, more egregious, and/or more prevalent in numbers than none left-wing racists?
    ...

(Just as a side note.. it's funny I was talking to my dad and he was talking about how you hear from the left/black people that "white America doesn't understand".. and he just asked me about it and he was struck by me saying "you know like with women listening and dancing to music 'derogatory' towards women, I don't perceive that they're talking about me." Lol, it was just funny because he had never thought about it that way)

Same for you. Explain your theory on why anti-Asian hate crimes have increased.

Wait, so you object to people making money denouncing racism? And you feel that they are making money “hand over fist” doing so? Could you let me in on where and how, cause I’d like to get some of that anti-racism money, lol.

How do you feel about people who make money hand over fist promoting white grievance and white nationalism?

Trump did see a jump in African-American male voters..

Which is also not to say that it's Trump's "fault".. I'm just saying that you wouldn't expect it's the only trickle down to white people when it's the most powerful person in the world.
