The football board had the very useful Daily Trump Tracker thread, which was a good place to briefly discuss the latest ridiculous thing that might have ended 97% of prior Presidential administrations even if it didn't necessarily justify an entire thread devoted to it in 2017-2019 (because of the sheer volume of these things). Since I don't see anything like that here already, I'll add one myself.

Yes, if the removal and substitution is sustained, Carroll basically loses. It would first be dismissed for the plaintiff's failure to exhaust an administrative remedy (filing and FTCA claim). But if Carroll did pursue it further, defamation is expressly excluded from FTCA - which means that it's excluded from the sole remedy and therefore there is no remedy. SOL.

It looks like they have agreed to the briefing schedule, which will conclude October 19. Then the judge will rule (on the removal based on FTCA jurisdiction).

I find it hard to believe that there is justification for withholding this money from this fund when the problem seems to be from another source. This appears to be overstepping from someone within the Treasury Department.

In a cult, everything the leader says is to be believed and any statement is to be rationalized. With over 20,000 documented lies during Trump's term, he is still believed. In spite of evidence to the contrary, Trump is still viewed by many as being a good president, and to some, the savior of the nation. His most devoted supporters (not those who see him as the only alternative to an unacceptable Democrat) can rationalize his lies and incompetence with narratives they create to justify his actions and statements. It doesn't matter to them how bad some of his policies are or the division he creates, because "he loves America."
