    OPB sent DHS an extensive list of questions about Pettibone’s arrest including: What is the legal justification for making arrests away from federal property? What is the legal justification for searching people who are not participating in criminal activity? Why are federal officers using civilian vehicles and taking people away in them? Are the arrests federal officers make legal under the constitution? If so, how?

    After 7 p.m. Thursday, a DHS spokesperson responded, on background, that they could confirm Wolf was in Portland during the day. The spokesperson didn’t acknowledge the remaining questions.

    This story is very troublesome.
     
    My question is, if these federal agents are breaking the law, why isn’t the mayor sending their police force to arrest the feds? It seems that may happen eventually:

    What’s unusual here is the fluffy rhetoric about taking over cities. What’s unusual is the politicization of a normal relationship between federal law enforcement and local law enforcement. And what is really unusual is the apparently illegal stormtrooper tactics that have been used by federal law enforcement in Portland.

    It is not OK to fracture skulls with what they like to call non-lethal rubber bullets or tear gas canisters. It is not OK when there is no probable cause to jump out of a rental van and just requisition people off the street. That looks like a dictatorship. That looks like a kidnapping. That looks like a crime. So there’s nothing unusual about federal law enforcement doing law enforcement work, where it may follow the law and where they have jurisdiction to do so. That’s not what we’re dealing with here, though. We’re dealing with a shiny object that the president is waving around to distract from his outrageous failures in many other areas. And to try to use his usual tactics of neo-fascist division, hate, and racism to improve his almost deceased campaign.

    That last line sure is the truth, IMO. Anyone who thinks he isn't doing this to show how tough he is before his campaign is totally dead is fooling themselves. He keeps talking about how we'd live in a lawless society if Biden wins, but all this is happening on his watch. He really is stupid. Cognitive test be damned lol.

    By the time anything gets decided, the damage is done. This is gross. People want to talk about trampling on first amendment rights over essentially group think / mob justice and we're ok with Federal Troops in a city, under a pretense of an increase in violent crime, but really there to basically shake down any protesters?

    I think the playbook will be to seek injunctive relief right away (court ordering the federal agents to cease operations).

    I think civil liberties organizations have been warning for some time now of the potential for this kind of executive abuse of domestic terrorism laws.
     
    They’ve probably had this planned for months. Well, Barr has because Trump doesn’t plan anything. They declared antifa a terrorist organization quite a while ago seemingly out of the blue. Thought it was odd at the time.

    This kind of shirt was my biggest fear of Trump getting elected. Everything federal has turned into a bastion of hate in Trump's image. And those agencies that haven't are the ones investigating him so he turns them into the boogeymen. the initials DJT will forever be initials people will avoid giving to their children.

    So my wife got home at 4am from the protests. Apparently last night they specifically targeted the moms and shot rubber bullets at them and launched the tear gas from close ranges to injure with the canisters. They were not near the protesters at this point because they came out earlier, like 11. She was fired at with rubber bullets and was surrounded by over 15 officers at one point because she stopped to help someone who fell. If I can figure out how to post from the texts she sent me, I will embed video she shot.

    she also has video of an individual being grabbed thrown down, cuffed and arrested with no rights being read or no verbal queue as to why he was being arrested. He was just walking and he was grabbed. She doesn’t have video of he aftermath but she said He was taken in a van into the federal building.

    I asked if there was any evidence they were following the judge’s restraining order and she just laughed.

    finally I told her that I hadposted her pic from Democracy Now and she yelled at me that this isn’t about her or the moms that they need to be talking to and photographing the BLM coalition not white moms. To that point she said that the WoM has now made a women of color the spokesperson and women of color are the only ones being offered for interviews. I said that was a great reminder and I would pass that on as well
     
    Does anyone know why they are trying to burn down the federal building? What is the goal?
