Well, I guess we will find out when we see whether the seats are empty. Sendai seems to think people won’t hesitate to come to the US, which to me flies in the face of common sense. Especially from Brazil, Argentina and Venezuela. If I were in those countries, there is no way I’d ever set foot in the US. Not right now.
    We’ll see

For every article that says attendance will be much lower than expected there’s another that says their system is crashing from getting so much traffic and reservations

    Time will tell

It’s like the Super Bowl. Too much interest to have empty stadiums.
But it could be like the Dallas and Jacksonville games were everyone had such a bad experience they don’t get another World Cup.

There are always empty seats at World Cup Games. Especially for the teams that just aren’t that interesting. Not every team is England, Argentina, Brazil, or France. Not all corporate tickets are used. It’s normal.

Expect the semi finals and finals to be close to full.

Whole lot of teams here that won’t fill the stadium. Cannon fodder.

Lol. Uses South Africa WC info from 2010.

    Let's parse this out.

First, South Africa population in 2010 was approx 50 million.

The population of the Greater New York area (Met life Stadium) is 20 million.

Second, South Africa isn't known for its diversity. America is.

So tell me what team you think pulls a lower draw? For kicks and giggles, lets pick Haiti.

Wanna guess how many Haitians call US home? Over 1 million concentrated in NE (NYC)

Haiti opens vs Scotland in Boston. Short car or train ride...ticket cost? $889 per person.

Its not interest in game...its cost.

Thats why you will have empty seats. And that's just Haiti v Scotland.

You can always come down to Atlanta for Haiti v Morocco but those tix are 300 a pop.

Its an easy out to point to attendance but you used South Africa? Lol

What was attendance in 2022 in Qatar?
Or 2014 in Brazil? 2018 Russia?

The fact that we won't have filled stadiums in a country of over 330 MILLION is why soccer will never be the sport here. We didnt invent and we dont dominate, so Americans have little interest. ( because its partly a pride thing...US loses to the Faroe Islands?? Lol )

Having empty seats in 2026 WC while being hosted in a country with over 330 Million is a huge issue. But when pressed, the usual response is "so what look at South Africa"

    Haha. Im lol.

April 22 (Reuters) - A top envoy to U.S. President Donald Trump has asked FIFA to replace Iran ‌with Italy in the upcoming World Cup, the Financial Times reported on Wednesday.

The plan is an effort to repair ties between Trump and Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni after the two fell out amid the American president's attacks against Pope Leo XIV over the Iran war, the FT reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

"I confirm I have suggested to Trump and (FIFA president Gianni) Infantino that Italy replace Iran at the World Cup. I'm an Italian native and it would be a dream to see the Azzurri at a US-hosted tournament. With four titles, they have the pedigree to justify inclusion," U.S. special envoy Paolo Zampolli told the FT.…….

Apparently FIFA has already rejected this idea.

Apparently FIFA has already rejected this idea.
“Fifa did not comment officially on Zampolli's suggestion but highlighted a statement made by Fifa president Gianni Infantino last week where he said: "The Iranian team is coming, for sure."

FWIW, there are tons of AirBnB's available around the Philly area the weekend of our match (June 14th)......

With only six weeks to go before the start of the World Cup, hotels at most of the cities hosting the tournament are facing a major problem: Bookings are running far below what they had expected.

For some metro areas such as Kansas City, bookings are running even below what a typical June or July would bring, according to an industry survey released on Monday by the American Hotel and Lodging Association.

The report was conducted last month and a spokesperson said it's based on 205 respondents "representing hotel operators and owners, many of whom own multiple hotel portfolios across the country and across multiple World Cup markets."

AHLA said the disappointing bookings stem from fewer than expected international travelers and large cancellations by FIFA — the organizer of the World Cup — leaving hotels with an unexpectedly large number of empty rooms.

"Despite more than 5 million tickets sold (for World Cup matches), this demand has not yet translated into strong hotel bookings," the AHLA said in the report.

The disappointment comes after the hotel industry was bracing for a strong summer in 2026. The World Cup is taking place across the U.S., Canada and Mexico — with 11 U.S. cities hosting games.

In addition, the U.S. is celebrating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, which was also expected to bring an influx of foreign visitors.

Overseas visitors are critical to the hotel industry, the AHLA says, because they tend to spend more — and stay longer.

But the AHLA warned nearly 80% of hotel bookings across host cities are running below initial forecasts, according to its survey. In Kansas City, 85% to 90% of hotels reported bookings below projections.……..
