Many may not know that this song was sung by members of SOGs Command and Control units in Vietnam when one of their own was killed. There were three C&C units. CCN: Command and Control North, CCC: Command and Control Central, and CCS: Command and Control South. They were made up primarily of Special Forces volunteers. They operated "over the fence" in North Vietnam/Laos/and Cambodia. Their teams were usually made up of 2 or 3 Special Forces and 5 or so Chinese Nungs. The Nungs were an ethnic Chinese hill people who lived in Vietnam. The missions were so dangerous that CCN had a 100% casualty rate between 1967 and 1968.
