Oh, but he's only joking - well, maybe, so they say. Or sort of joking with Canada, and maybe not joking with Greenland - saying that "ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity" doesn't sound like a joke . . . and um, not sure about what the about Panama Canal thing is?

what the !#!@# is happening here?

We want to absorb all these areas into the US, yet there is no plan on how we pay for this. ( not to mention 100s of other questions that arise regarding what we would be responsible for exactly )

This entire administration is running roughshod over international diplomacy. The guardrails are almost completely gone and once fully removed, God knows what is next.

How are Americans going to pick up the broken pieces of what was once a great international reputation and desire to stand by our allies??
Disrupting international diplomacy is what Putin does to create opportunities to exploit and conquer sovereign nations. The Republicans are doing exactly what Putin wants. The only question is are they following his orders or are they dumb enough to be manipulated by Putin without even knowing it?

This is why I keep saying it will be decades to clean up this unprecedented nightmare of a mess (to put it mildly) he and his cohorts have caused (not just here, but throughout the world). Some people say things like there is only one Trump, and after(if) he leaves office things will get back to normal. But by I say there will be a lasting legacy or effect (like when you throw a stone in water, it causes ripples that continue long after the stone hits).

How long would it take to clean up his international mess, of tearing down allies, caused by him and his cohorts. I say it won't be easy, or soon. And over here, you also have all those forking judges he has (and will) appoint (to lifetime positions etc). So this problem, and all the things he has shirt on, will not be going away any time soon (or healed/fixed) once he is gone.
I think we had too much influence on the world, so I'm glad we have lost some of that influence. I don't want us to get back to the position we once had and don't we ever will. I do think we'll end up in a better position for us and the rest of the world, than we were before Trump. We have had too much of an unchecked, corrupt, self-serving relationship with the rest of the world for too long. It's the same thing that allowed for so much internal, self-serving corruption to be turned against us.

Putin learned a lot of his tactics from the US. Oligarchs/billionaires have had too much corrupt power over us for too long. I think the Republicans completing enabling the American oligarchs/billionaires has lead to this overreach to grab complete power and, like in the early 1990's it will lead to a massive backlash against then and we will grab our powers back from them. This is not the first time in American history that billionaires have seized almost complete, corrupt control over our lives.

I think this is further proof that the Republicans are taking orders from Putin. Sowing discontent in neighboring countries to weaken them is straight out of the Putin handbook.

I think Trump admires Putin and wants to mimic his behavior and the R's are spineless and fear opposing him.....there are many on that side that know what he is doing is wrong and support it anyways.....I hope they get the karma they deserve some day.....

I agree, but every move they make benefits Putin more than anyone else. I don't think that's just a coincidence of Trump mimicking Putin. I think both are true. Trump wants to emulate Putin and the Republicans are doing everything Putin wants them to do.

I disagree that Republicans are just "spineless and fear" Trump. Trump is doing exactly what the Republicans have been wanting to do for decades. That's why they like Trump and are letting him do what they want him to do, while pretending they don't like it and are powerless to stop him. Trump is to Republicans and billionaires what Hitler was to the Nazi's and billionaires of Germany. Trump is both the Republican faceman and fall guy, just like Hitler was.

Danish humor

That's fantastic! I didn't know there was tension between Greenland and Denmark. What is the source of the tension? Also, it appears that Trump now wants Iceland, so they may want a reunion with Denmark!

The familiar story: attempts were made to impose European norms in Greenland with little understanding of Inuit culture.

That said, Greenland has had home rule for more than 30 years and is represented by two members of parliament, who often wield significant influence. Danish politics tend to cluster around the center, which means the representatives from Greenland and the Faroe Islands have frequently held the deciding votes in determining which parties form a government.

For many years most administrators and professionals came from Denmark but as the number of professional greenlanders educated in Denmark grew, most officials are Inuit today.
Also today Greenlandic culture decide things like criminal laws which are somewhat different from Denmark. An example - Someone convicted of a non-violent crime are allowed to leave the prison during the day to go hunting as long as they are back in prison by nightfall.

It sounds like it was just one of many "what if this happens" war contingency plans. A good defense requires thinking of every possible scenario and having a plan in place in case that happened. It doesn't sound like we ever actually wanted to attack Canada.

The Republicans and Trump do seem to sincerely want to start invading and conquering our neighbors.

Sadly, I have to agree. These forkers are loons.

According to Financial Times administration officials have been in contact with an Alberta separatist group. They have had three meetings in 2025 and on is allegedly scheduled for February 2026. The group is seeking $500 billion dollars to help push secession from Canada.

Fork them. We don’t need more MAGAts in this country. And fork anyone and everyone from this traitorous administration who is involved with this.

Trump administration officials have reportedly held several secret meetings with far-right Canadian separatists who want to break free from the rest of the country.

U.S. officials met with leaders of the Alberta Prosperity Project, a fringe right-wing group of separatists who want the oil-rich western province to become independent, three times in Washington since last April, sources told the Financial Times.

News of the stealthy meetings comes at a time of especially high tensions between the U.S. and its northern neighbor. During a speech in Davos at the World Economic Forum, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke of a “rupture” in the world order, in what appeared to be a veiled attack on the trade and foreign policies of President Donald Trump – but without mentioning him by name.……

Once again it is all about oil....

Introducing a Sovereignty Act was a flagship promise in Smith’s successful United Conservative Party (UCP) leadership bid that appealed to right-wing Albertans, particularly in rural areas. The bill is expected to become law because the UCP have a majority in Alberta’s legislative assembly.

Alberta has long had a strained relationship with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government in Ottawa, stemming from a sense that the federal government’s climate polices are damaging Canada’s oil and gas industry.
