I have a question about TikTok, if there is an ability to “spy” I’m not sure what that means other than the ability to do something like insert false narratives during election time or to blunt valid critiques of China through manipulation by agents of China which btw is a valid concern in all social media, and not just China but all foreign players if they are validly deemed hostile to the US (or apply this standard to any country on either end of the issue, as manipulator or manipulated).

For the former, ”spying” , I would think that programming experts would be able dissect the software and find the ability to spy, but for the latter which is a valid concern I am more sympathetic to the idea of banning China if there is a history of false narratives favorable to China, or detrimental to US elections being used to manipulate the sheep.

I suspect that this was done to lower the value of TikTok so that President Musk can purchase the company at a discount.

I also tried setting my VPN to Albania and it didn’t work.

This is all pretty transparent, IMO. The CEO made a message on TikTok last night before it stopped working thanking Trump for his efforts to “save” TikTok. There’s some corruption going on.

Who will stop him?

Not only is he attempting to suspend the law enacted by Congress and upheld by the Supreme Court, he is also saying HE will choose who gets to invest in TikTok.

I don’t want TikTok suspended, I think it’s a stupid law, but this isn’t the way the US deals with things.

How can the GOP keep enabling this guy?

The President can issue a one time 90'day stay but he has to show that three distinct events have taken place:

1) there is a definable path to divesture (a method in which current ownership can shed their stake - this should be doable

2) Evidence that significant progress toward step 1 had been made - I have not heard of any plan so this would be a sticking point for congress

Here's the bad one for Tik Tok:

3) That the divesture must happen within the 90 days. Putting together what would be a $50+ Billion dollar deal in 90 days is a Herculean effort. And as far as I know, there aren't any buyers.

So while it could be saved, the only way it gets done that fast is with a merger/ joint venture (most possible) or hostile takeover (ain't happening)

My guess is either Truth Social or Twitter or Meta merges with it for pennies on the dollar. In fact, I believe that was the plan all along.

Also I think the extension provision had to happen before the 270-day deal period expired.

Well the law has divestiture requirements - he appears to be saying he wants that to happen, he’s not just making that part up. But it appears he’s also adding some addition elements he’d like to see. I don’t want to try to sort it out based simply on a social media post before he’s even president.

I just went on the app. Big red box that says Welcome Back! Thanks to President Trump you can access TikTok in the US again.

It had another sentence or so, I failed to take a screenshot and it only shows up the first time you opened the app today apparently.

This tells me that TikTok took itself down yesterday evening. And that there’s something rotten going on.
