I agree with a lot of this, but I think you have to consider what I believe to be a fact that Biden could nominate Harris or Sanders right now and still win. It isn't some hanging by a thread scenario. Polls suggest he could win Texas and Georgia. This will IMHO be one of the largest blowouts in history. The Republicans are going to cry Socialism if John McCain ran against them. There was never any substance to their fearmongering..They cry out against social Democrats, not the silly red scare monikers they throw at the wall. All of that is irrelevant now in the face of a populace who overwhelmingly simply wants Trump out.

No, I completely agree that it is very wise to be cautiously optimistic at this point. However, I don't see this playing out in any manner relative to 2016. The enthusiasm for Trump has dwindled significantly. This election isn't about 2 candidates as much as it is a sickened opposition to 1 candidate.

There's also another aspect to this election....

In 2016, the people as a whole, were looking for something different, and Hillary Clinton was almost universally disliked. Trump was an outsider, and there was legitimate reason to believe an outsider could be the way to go.

In 2020, we have been able to witness exactly how that outsider works as president and the people as a whole have been able to form an opinion of whether or not that is the type of person that we need in the White House. At the same time, Biden is a candidate who isn't disliked as Hillary was, and while he has some speaking issues, he is fairly well liked and well respected.

Trump won in 2016 because less than 100,000 people in key states voted for him. I don't see the election this year being as close, and I think Trump will be soundly defeated.

So here's my one concern with Bass... she's approaching 70. Biden has always said he wanted someone younger. While younger than someone like Warren, she's far older than the other contenders and plenty don't see her as someone who can mount a national campaign in 4 years. Again, it doesn't matter because I'm voting for Biden either way, but it's starting to concern me seeing stories of how members of Biden's own search committee are trying to sabotage the chances of other (first Warren and now Harris it seems) for crazy reasons. This in-fighting is part of what allowed Trump to get elected four year ago.

Biden's campaign has said that he would name his VP choice the first week of August, but USA Today is reporting that he has pushed the announcement back. He is now expected to make the announcement the week before the convention, which starts August 17.

I am now leaning toward his naming Harris as VP and Rice as Secretary of State with Bass filling another prominent role.

Doh, didn't think about that, assuming they still do them in person and not online. My guess is at there either won't be an audience, or it if there is one it will be very limited (the second debate was supposed to be "town hall style," so we'll see how they pull that off).

Regarding Rice, I'm leery about what she brings to the table simply because in the minds of a lot of people Rice>>Benghazi>>Hillary, and the last thing I want is for this election to have anything to do with her. I imagine Rice would love the platform to attempt to correct the narrative, but every second spent re-litigating Benghazi is a second wasted that should be spent examining the vast corruption and incompetence of the Trump administration.

Agreed 100%. Pence might not show up knowing he'd be across the stage from Harris.

Republicans across the board will scream "Benghazi!!!" to high heaven if Rice is selected. But I'd make her Sec. of State in a quickness.
