I thought there was already a topic about DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) but I could not find it in search.
Anyway, it seems one of the main goals for republicans is to destroy anything (even if only vaguely) DEI related

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, the multi-billion-dollar philanthropy led by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Dr. Priscilla Chan, is reportedly moving away from political spending, following criticism from Republicans and internal tensions with liberal staff members.

The initiative, founded in 2015, always invested in a combination of social and scientific causes, but has recently rebranded as “science-first,” and has ended internal diversity programs, housing initiatives, and diversity-focused funding for scientists.

This spring, a school for low-income students that Chan founded also closed.

The shift, which has also included an overall slowdown in spending, with $336 million in grants, less than half the group’s average, came after a series of bruising encounters with politics, The New York Times reports.

Chan and Zuckerberg were reportedly frustrated after getting criticism from Trump and his allies for efforts like donating $400 million to nonpartisan election infrastructure in the 2020 race, an effort MAGA derided as “Zuckerberg bucks.” Trump, for his part, threatened the Meta boss with “life in prison” during the 2024 campaign if he intervened in the election.……..

Sniveling coward. Or true fascist underneath the more civilized face (heh) he presented to the world prior to now.

I think that is correct regarding Zuck. I have little use for much of the so-called Techbros. Too many have taken advantage of the legal system including courts to wield outsized influence resulting in legislative and regulatory capture.

And every single one of them that has done that are also intentionally aiding and abetting tyranny/fascism/authoritarianism both here in the US and all across the planet. The Nazi's and the other jackholes of the first half of the 1900's had the industrial bros backing them and helping them seize power. The current day jackholes have the tech bros backing them and helping them to seize power.

The executive order also revokes a presidential memorandum signed by then-President Barack Obama in 2017 that promoted a range of diversity and inclusion efforts in the management of national parks and other public lands.

It called for improving access for all Americans and "considering recommendations and proposals from diverse populations to protect at-risk historic, cultural, and natural sites."

Diversity and inclusion were also priorities for parks during the Biden administration.

Ever since Donald Trump's win in the 2024 US presidential election, companies and their executives were quick to try and curry favour with the president. This included ditching DEI initiatives and policies, which even more companies later joined them on, following an anti-DEI executive order from Trump. While many of these initiatives were strictly about hiring practices, the sentiment behind this shift in policy was felt everywhere, with the rise in racist, transphobic, and other bigoted laws and attitudes across the United States and beyond.

Now, it seems that the gaming industry is not immune to this either. Speaking with me in an interview that will be published tomorrow, actor Samantha Béart, who played Karlach in Baldur's Gate 3, tells me that they are already aware of game devs who have had their work censored, as the industry appears to be bowing down to the regressive politics of Trump's second term.

This came up in my chat with Béart when I asked if, in our current climate, they feared that a game as diverse as Baldur's Gate 3 would struggle to get greenlit now.

“Without exposing devs, I know that's happening. Their storylines have been cut," they tell me. “Historically, appeasement is a really bad thing."

Despite this, they are optimistic that this won't last forever. "Indies exist. And people can write, and communities will get together, and we will absolutely get through this together."

This also comes amid the revival of the GamerGate movement, which is seeing developers, journalists, and many others in the gaming industry harassed online. It also means we often see the argument that games with characters that are non-white and/or queer will sell poorly. Baldur's Gate 3 quite obviously disproved that, as it was reported to have sold 15 million copies as of November 2024...............

No backlash yet but wouldn’t be surprised if it’s coming

Remember the one when a Barbie in a wheelchair was released
    =========

Kate Moss’s daughter Lila Moss says the launch of the first Barbie doll with type 1 diabetes is “surreal”.

The 22-year-old, who is also a model and has diabetes, was also presented with a one-off Barbie doll of herself during the launch, which comes after the release of deaf, blind and Down Syndrome versions of the toy from the toy’s manufacturer Mattel.

“I think to have a Barbie doll that looks like me with type 1 diabetes is completely surreal, and it makes me very proud to be able to represent this community,” she said.

“I get so many messages every day about how I’ve helped someone be less insecure or helped them be more proud of their diabetes patches, and so to be able to represent the community in this way is very exciting and special.…….

Back to blaming everything on DEI
    ========================

Rightwing podcaster and influencer Charlie Kirk has claimed the death toll from the Texas floods “would not have been as high if it wasn’t for” diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.

Kirk made the comments during his program on Real America’s Voice, saying, “The Democrats are so despicable. The Democrats are not lifting a finger to remember the well over 100 that have died in Texas Hill Country.”

He added that what “you are not being told by the media anywhere, is that the death toll likely would not have been as high if it wasn’t for DEI.”

“This Texas tragedy is just the latest example,” Kirk went on. “It’s not just incompetence. This is DEI working to undermine meritocratic institutions, and more people likely died than otherwise would have because of DEI.”

Republicans have made an effort to blame several tragedies on DEI initiatives, and the administration of President Donald Trump has been working to root out any such initiatives in the federal government. The administration has ordered that federal employees working on DEI issues be placed on leave............

The dismantling of Harvard’s diversity offices arrived at Harvard College on Wednesday as websites for centers serving minority students, LGBTQ students, and women disappeared suddenly and without fanfare.

The quiet removals came as the Faculty of Arts and Sciences — which houses the College, Harvard’s undergraduate school — announced internally on Wednesday afternoon that it would shutter its diversity office and replace it with an Office for Academic Culture and Community.

The same afternoon, web pages belonging to the Harvard College Women’s Center, Office for BGLTQ Student Life, and Foundation for Intercultural and Race Relations were taken down. Links to the centers’ sites now redirect to a nearly empty web page for an Office of Culture and Community within the College’s Dean of Students Office.

College spokesperson Jonathan Palumbo declined to say whether the centers would continue their operations and whether their staff would remain at Harvard, but referred Crimson reporters to a statement on the new page saying that the College anticipates “broadening this mission-critical work with renewed energy.”

The rollout this week comes more than two months after Harvard renamed its central diversity office — and represents the most far-reaching effort yet to scour references to diversity, equity, and inclusion from the University’s official materials as the Trump administration demands their elimination.

And the changes also arrive as the White House has boasted publicly — and Harvard’s leaders have spoken privately — of reopened negotiations between the two parties. In recent days, dynamics seem to have soured once again, with the Trump administration serving the University a subpoena and threatening its accreditation Wednesday morning.

But the University’s moves that same day represent a major concession to a linchpin of the same demands that its leaders have denounced, in the media and in court, as unconstitutional. The Trump administration has repeatedly and explicitly included an end to DEI at Harvard among its conditions for restoring federal research funding.

The changes within the FAS and the College continue Harvard’s adoption of a new administrative vocabulary: one that eschews mentions of race, gender, or equity while emphasizing words like “community,” “diverse viewpoints,” and “growth.”...............
