Senate Election Thread (2 Viewers)

Yeah, while I've lost all respect for Graham over the last 4 years, trying to paint him as a racist is a stretch and his comments are definitely being taken out of context.

I hope the dude loses the election and gets kicked in the balls by an angry mule, but he is no racist.

I saw the entire quote from Graham about Harrison, so I understood the context. It’s still incredibly condescending and tone deaf, imo. I wouldn’t be surprised that African Americans find it offensive.

I agree that it certainly came off condescending and tone deaf. And given how frequently he sounds that way, it’s just time for South Carolina to move on from him. He’s a relic of last century.

I think the full quotes and context weren't as bad as they seem in these tweets - at least not as to Lindsey's intent. In the one about "you can go anywhere in this state" it was following a line where he said "If you're a young African-American, you can go to the Senate. You just have to share our values." He was referring to his opponent and saying that his being a young African-American isn't what should keep him from the Senate, it's his values. Or whatever.

So when following that with "If you’re a young, African American or an immigrant, you can go anywhere in this state, you just need to be conservative, not liberal" - it's pretty clear that by "go" he means "make it to" in the context of "go to the Senate" or "go to the Governor's office". It's very weird syntax but I think it's clear what he meant. I don't think he was referring to whether minority citizens should appreciate their right to freely move about the state.

The question to Judge Barrett was similarly poorly chosen words, and even worse, it was a total unforced error. He was trying to use her comments about Brown being a "super-precedent" as a jumping off point for some other issues - and he wanted to make the (unnecessary and contestable) point that part of the impact of a super-precedent is that legislators abandon the effort to change after the Supreme Court's ruling becomes well settled. So in his effort to be colorful in talking about segregation laws (good Lord why would he pick that topic to get colorful in his speech?), he said "well, nobody's trying to bring back the good old days of segregation right?"

Just really bad judgment. Really poor choice of words reflecting on top of bad judgment. Total unforced error. But I don't think he was actually referring to segregation with any sort of approval or nostalgia.

I watched that live and cringed a bit because that good old days comment was gonna get taken out of context. I thought he was trying to make a cute sarcastic comment, but it wasn't well executed. It’s clear he don't think they were the good old days.

He did literally compare polygamy to gay marriage as well when talking about Obergofell (sp). That wasn't an accident by Lady G.

It’s crazy that Ds have 3 southern states they could pick off Senate seats.

The latest Reuters/Ipsos poll has Cunningham and Tillis tied. Based on the trend and one consistently outlier poll, I think it’s fair to say Cunningham is +1.

Ossoff is trending well and RCP has Purdue at +0.9. What Ds are losing in NC they are gaining in GA.

SC needs more polling as the race is a toss-up on RCP. Bledsoe, the 3rd party conservative on the top of the ballot, may siphon enough votes from Graham to give Harrison a win.

Wow. Lou Dobbs hates Lindsay Graham?!?

That guy must be the world’s biggest turd sandwich for them not to toe the party line for him

Lol. I can say one thing is for certain. Lou Dobbs is his own man. No one telling him what to think. :hihi:

He's one of the few personalities over at Fox that I have a little respect for.

As for Lindsey. He's such a mixed bag. I really like him at times, then at other times I'm like...smh, really? He's got his work cut out for him. Pretty shocking that he might lost his election.

Looks like Mitch is on some fairly high dose blood thinners and took a nasty fall. Looks like he face planted, judging the bruises on his upper lip and around the bridge of his nose (probably due to his glasses).

This is in the middle of an election for a 6 year term. He should actually tell the people of Kentucky what is up with his health. If he won’t, they shouldn’t vote for him. (Of course, I don’t think anyone should have ever voted for him anyway, but that’s beside my point.)

I can't imagine enough Republicans would either vote for the Libertarian or simply not vote in the Senate election to enable an upset by Harrison. Trump is winning South Carolina -- would a Trump voter also vote for Harrison? Seems unlikely but who knows?

Trump repeated his belief that Rs will re-take the House, but he thinks they may lose the Senate because there are just some senators that he cannot help, lol.

"I think the Senate is tough actually," Trump said at the event, an attendee told the Post on condition of anonymity. "The Senate is very tough. There are a couple senators I can't really get involved in. I just can't do it. You lose your soul if you do. I can't help some of them. I don't want to help some of them."

Post 2018, most people were talking about how the Dems had a chance to retake the Senate in 2022. Trump’ spite is going to cost them the Senate in 2020 and Dems could add to that 2 years later.

    I got nothing.
