It's like the person that says to themself, "I'm not afraid of heights" to psyche themself out of the fact they are indeed afraid of heights.

I know a few older relatives that have left the GOP because of it.
My grandma was embarrassed by Trump before he passed.
My mom actually switched from Republican to independent. And on numerous occasions has said my grandfather (who passed around 04) would not be supportive of the current GOP
