Prisoner swap underway between U.S., Russia, and other countries (1 Viewer)

Just one hour before releasing a July 21 statement that ultimately changed the presidential election, President Biden was reportedly on the phone with other world leaders, trying to finalize the details of getting four Americans released from Russian custody.
While the Biden administration has made bringing these Americans home a priority, it would come at the cost of allowing multiple Russians convicted of crimes to go free. Among them was Vadim Krasikov, a man convicted of murder and held by Germany. Senior administration officials said that Russia considered Krasikov the "biggest fish."
Officials said the prisoners' release would not have been possible if Germany had not agreed to release Krasikov.
The old demented man sure is hard working and convincing.

Edit, I vaguely remember reading articles that Germany valued a Russian prisoner, who I assume is krasikov. In prior negotiations, it was a dead end because Germany refused to release this prisober.

I saw a clip of Biden discussing this on the tarmac, and he seemed as good as I've seen him for years. I think it is helping Biden to be able to focus on the job, and it's comforting to know he's on the job for the next 6 months.

I'll stand corrected if I'm wrong as I've only had the chance to read the article I posted and the myriad of posts here and on thread. If the nalvany story is true, Biden's team has been negotiating this deal since before nalvany's death and culminating on what appears to be Biden convincing Berlin to release russia's crown jew. Biden had to have been updated and involved, despite his campaigning. The old man was already focused and doing his job. Whether his exit helped his public appearance, that may well be.

it was Slovenia - per his comments on tarmac - they were the one ( Germany too, but made it seem like Scholz came in line quickly ) that really didnt want to release their Russians.

I've read similar things about how long the negotiations have been ongoing, and I also read that he had essentially sealed the deal with a phone call an hour before he announced that he would drop out of the race. I think this achievement indicates that Biden has clearly been doing his job, but it was asking a lot to also campaign simultaneously. That is a huge ask for anyone. I just think this should lay to rest the nonsense that he should resign now. He is clearly still doing good work for America, and we should want him to finish his term doing that good work.

This is how ridiculous some people look trying to claim Biden is senile or demented

I can buy this considering his age. My snark from my last few posts in here was aimed at the idea that he has dementia and is therefore unable to do his job. The Trump campaign is like the dog that caught the ambulance. They dominated the narrative that Biden is incapacitated, and now can't mount new strategies.

    Completely unsurprising

Then why not wait until after the election or inauguration to do this?

Also, this was like one of those NBA trades that involves 4 teams

Vance is just really bad at campaigning. Like DeSantis bad.

White House national security communications adviser John Kirby hit back at former President Trump and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), for making claims that Trump deserved credit for Thursday’s prisoner swap between Russia and the U.S., which included the freeing of Paul Whelan and Evan Gershkovich.

“There’s absolutely zero evidence at all that this deal was brought about because of some potential fear of who might be the next president,” Kirby told CNN’s Kate Bolduan.

On Thursday, Vance said that Russian President Vladimir Putin had agreed to the prisoner swap because of the potential of a Trump presidency.

“But we have to ask ourselves: Why are they coming home? And I think it’s because bad guys all over the world recognize Donald Trump’s about to be back in office, so they’re cleaning house,” Vance said. “That’s a good thing, and I think it’s a testament to Donald Trump’s strength.”

    Kirby pushed back.

“This deal was brought about because the president had, President Biden had alliances and partnerships and trust he could build on, particularly with the German chancellor,” Kirby said.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz agreed to release a known Russian assassin, Vadim Krasikov, who proved to be a linchpin in winning Russia’s approval of the deal to release the Americans and close to a dozen other people.

“That’s what brought these guys home, was really solid relationships and trusting confidence that the president has built up over years with foreign leaders and a lot of hard work and some tough decisions by some very strong leaders here in the United States and around the world,” he added.

Kirby also responded to Trump’s claims that the release was a “win for Putin” because the U.S. had released some “really bad guys.” .............
