This falls along what I have been saying all along about China kicking our butts on Manufacturing.

"The Chinese Communist Party has threatened to cut off America's access to vital drugs in the midst of a pandemic caused by its own failures. It's time to pull America's supply chains for life-saving medicine out of China and make the CCP pay for contributing to this global emergency," said Cotton.

In fact, over 80 percent of pharmaceuticals sold in the U.S. – in addition to crucial medical equipment, including face-marks – come from China.

We can on both sides bicker about this all day long. It's America. Is tons of people across this country going to start suddenly voting for strong policies instead of 'red vs blue', 'racists vs liberal crybabies'?

No. I'm sorry, we have a pandemic killing folks, putting people out of work all over this nation and the LAST thing we're doing is joining forces to demand more from our government. which at the end of the day is US. Question nothing. To do so would be downright communist. Look at the point we've gotten to..our political representatives conditioned by their representatives ($$$$$$) to put their heads down and do what they've always done, and we keep being terrified of what folks will think if we vote for commonsense measures like universal healthcare. Yeah. The insurance companies, which are driven by the empathy to the struggling American family will save us.

    Nothing will change.

Correct. In my opinion it would have been easy for the left to call BS on Pelosi and company sabotaging the stimulus bill with Green New Deal type provisions. I have not seen that happen. I don't have to list the provisions that I am talking about. SFL already spent enough time and energy doing that in the other thread.

Or the right calling BS on their senators not wanting to extend unemployment benefits to those out of work, calling the legislation "Bernie Sanders on steroids".

Let's not act like both sides aren't blocking legislation for their own benefit or to appease their own constituents.

Doesn't seem like the same ballpark. One is a legitimate dispute about the terms of relief, the other is a power grab.

It would be similar to if the GOP took the opportunity to try to push through legislation prohibiting states from enforcing red flag laws or something equally unrelated to relief from the shutdown.

I dont even know why I am explaining this to you of all people. You're definitely intelligent enough to see the difference without me talking you through it.

I did. There have been many who have.

Still, not a bit of difference it makes.

True, nothing we say here makes any kind of direct impact. We should all probably keep that in mind before we go for each other's throats, lol.

Appreciate you pointing that out - I actually seem to recall someone pointing out that you were calling it fairly on that.

I will add this - I am not denying that this package may be loaded with provisions that helps out the top tier more than it should.

In general, we NEED a functional "left" that keeps the right in check.

When the left abandons that role in favor of the nonsense it decided was important, it effectively abandons the role of looking out for the little guy.

At best, they muddy the waters and divert attention away from what they should be arguing.

At worse, they are part of the problem themselves as Democrats get money from corporations too.

I think I pretty much always call it fairly, I do admit having a particular dislike of hypocrisy.

Anyway, there is plenty of pork. I won't outright condemn funding Kennedy Center and NEA and others, but it's always more complicated than a meme. You're too smart to think memes are full expressions, but our local rep, Matt Gaetz, clearly isn't.

Today, that little piece of work went after the funding for Howard University without understanding it's a federally chartered school with a major trauma center in DC. Others have gone off on funding for the Kennedy Center. $25m for a place with loads of employees and facilities isn't much when you consider that just in the past week my own company has lost over 1m in contracts. That's a direct loss of 200k in gross profit for us and I'm just a small town contractor.

I wish it had been a simple thing. They should have left some of that green new deal stuff off, but so the Republicans should never have looked to include anti-abortion language either.

Tit for tat isn't going to get us anywhere. Big mouthed politicians stoking conflict are likely a bigger problem than the virus because while they - AND TRUMP - are out selling snake oil and refusing the burden of leadership they signed on for, the rest of us are just sitting and spinning.

I'm quickly tiring on this vacuous debate with you and if you're trying to reduce what i said to team politics you're surely missing it so I'll try one last time.

you keep expressing outrage for China because they failed to stop it or warn us. You see their government as responsible. OK.

Here you say both sides have left us unprepared. The only problem is that only one side has done it. One side has caused the policy changes that remove our protections. One party has enacted legislation that prevents us from being prepared. The other side has fought against them, but in the fight against left and socialism that side has been unable to prevent what we see today.

If you want to make our goods and medicines at home, there's one party that's attempted to make that happen. If you want a medical system that isn't based on instant profit, rather taking a long term view towards overall health, prevention and preparedness, there's one party that you should support.

Instead, you blame both sides when the issues you've complaining about are very much to blame on one side of the aisle.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't those 3 Republican senators only threaten to block the bill? They didn't end up blocking it like the Democrats did right?
