I know this is a sports story, but i think it’s interesting and worth it to look into the political aspects of the recent Ole Miss and LSU/Lane Kiffin feud.

If you haven’t read, a few days ago, Lane Kiffin told Vanity Fair that he had trouble recruiting at Ole Miss because of its ties to the confederacy, particularly its name and use of the old Colonel Reb logo that was discontinued in the mid 00s.
Now Ole Miss fans were angry at the statement.
Insteaof some introspection as to why that stigma still exists two decades after the logo and confederate imagery (despite the use of the terms Ole Miss and Rebels still in use), the fanbase basically dismissed the accusation.

And I say all of this because I see this as a microcosm of the dangers of whitewashing history.
Ole Miss didn’t volunteer give up the Colonel Reb logo, the confederate imagery, or the state flag.
They are still named the Ole Miss Rebels!
Tommy Tubberville who coached at Ole Miss at the time had to beg to get the confederate flag removed.

You will get no argument from me. The South didn’t get half the treatment they deserved. The depressing thing is that the so-called Party of Lincoln is the party of racism and voter suppression.

The South lost the war but so far has won the peace.

    Disgusting.

Ed Ogeron told Mike Detillier the same thing on WWL a few days ago. He had trouble recruiting there when he
    was HC.

    hmmmmm....shrewd move.
Can't just be accepting of people with black skin on the football fields and other sports. Have to accept them in every walk of life or they won't help your favorite college win sporting events. In other words, people with black skin won't shut up and dribble for you.
