Anxiety surges as Donald Trump may be indicted soon: Why 2024 is 'the final battle' and 'the big one'

WASHINGTON – It looks like American politics is entering a new age of anxiety, triggered by an unprecedented legal development: The potential indictment of a former president and current presidential candidate.

Donald Trump's many legal problems – and calls for protests by his followers – have generated new fears of political violence and anxiety about the unknowable impact all this will have on the already-tense 2024 presidential election

I’ll reframe this is a more accurate way, Are Presidents above the law? This new age was spurred into existence when home grown dummies elected a corrupt, mentally ill, anti-democratic, would be dictator as President and don’t bother to hold him responsible for his crimes, don’t want to because in the ensuing mayhem and destruction, they think they will be better off. The man is actually advocating violence (not the first time). And btw, screw democracy too. If this feeling spreads, we are In deep shirt.

This goes beyond one treasonous Peice of work and out to all his minions. This is on you or should we be sympathetic to the idea of they can’t help being selfish suckers to the Nation’s detriment? Donald Trump is the single largest individual threat to our democracy and it‘s all going to boil down to will the majority of the GOP return to his embrace and start slinging his excrement to support him?

    And there is this

“So it is all the more extraordinary that President Trump’s judicial appointments have earned the ABA’s “Well Qualified” rating at nearly the highest rate in five decades. Consider President Trump’s court-of-appeals appointments: The ABA has rated 77 percent of them “Well Qualified,” exceeding the 75 percent for the Clinton and Carter administrations, the 69 percent for the George W. Bush administration, the 62 percent for the George H.W. Bush administration, and the 57 percent for the Reagan administration. Only President Obama’s percentage was higher, at 80 percent. Otherwise, President Trump’s appointments to the courts of appeals have been rated “Well-Qualified” by the ABA at the highest rate of any president since at least Gerald Ford.

Similarly, President Trump’s district-court appointments have been rated historically well-qualified by the ABA — with nearly 66 percent receiving a “Well Qualified” rating. President Obama’s district-court nominees, by contrast, received that rating only 58.6 percent of the time. District-court judges appointed by Presidents Clinton, George H.W. Bush, Reagan, and Carter likewise lagged behind those appointed by President Trump.

Overall, a remarkable 68.8 percent of President Trump’s judicial appointees have earned the ABA’s “Well Qualified” rating. Since the Ford administration, only President George W. Bush exceeded that level, and even then only by less than 1 percent.”

One of the unqualified was moved up to appeals court and suddenly was well qualified according to the aba.
I saw it. It’s an opinion piece from the National Review.

Trump had 10 nominees rated “unacceptable” by the ABA. That had never happened before, since 1989 they had only rated 2 nominees in that way.

That amazing stat alone drags down the average of his nominees. You can say he had some good nominees, but he had historically high levels of turds. That’s just fact.

I find humor in the nominee that was rated unqualified to be suddenly well qualified a year later.

And trump didn’t pick those nominees. They were picked for him.

As the lead singer of a Bruce Springsteencover band, Brad Hobicorn had been looking forward to performing at Riv’s Toms River Hub in New Jersey on Friday.

Then came a text message from the bar’s owner, saying the gig was cancelled. Why?

Because the real Bruce Springsteen had lambastedDonald Trump.

“He said to me his customer base is redder than red and he wishes Springsteen would just shut his mouth,” Hobicorn recalls by phone. “It was clear that this guy was getting caught up in that and didn’t want to lose business. The reality is we would have brought a huge crowd out there: new customers that are Springsteen fans that want to see a band locally.”

The culture wars have arrived in New Jersey, the state of Frank Sinatra, Jon Bon Jovi, Whitney Houston, comedian Jon Stewart and TV hit The Sopranos. Springsteen – revered for songs such as Born In The USA, Glory Days, Dancing In The Dark and Born To Run – has long been a balladeer of the state’s blue-collar workers. But last year, many of those same workers voted for the president……..

Harris beat Trump by six percentage points in New Jersey, significantly less than Joe Biden’s 16-point winning margin in 2020.

In Toms River, a township along the Jersey Shore, Trump received twice as many votes as Harris, helping explain why Riv’s Toms River Hub got cold feet about hosting a Springsteen cover band.

The bar and restaurant cancelled the 30 May gig by No Surrender, a nine-person band that has played Springsteen songs for more than two decades, despite it being scheduled months in advance. Contacted by the Guardian, owner Tony Rivoli declined to comment.

Hobicorn, 59, from Livingston, New Jersey, says the band suggested a compromise of playing classic rock other than Springsteen’s but Rivoli rejected the idea. Hobicorn also received some criticism from Springsteen fans for offering the partial climbdown.

But he explains: “That’s where I made the point that not everybody in the band is aligned with Bruce Springsteen’s politics. Everybody’s got a different point of view but that’s OK. You can still be in a Springsteen cover band and not 100% agree with everything he says.”

He adds: “My band is split. We’re half red, half blue. We have civilised conversations and then we go and play the music and it’s never been about politics. This thing got made into a political situation.”………
He has also challenged his audience politically beyond presidential endorsements.

Born in the USA told of a Vietnam war veteran who lost his brother in the war and came home to no job prospects and a bleak future.

My Hometown described the kind of economic decline and discontent that Trump has exploited: “Now Main Street’s whitewashed windows and vacant stores / Seems like there ain’t nobody wants to come down here no more.”

Springsteen’s 1995 album The Ghost of Tom Joad bluntly documented the lives of struggling immigrants, including those from Mexico and Vietnam.

His 2001 song American Skin (41 Shots), criticised the shooting by New York City police officers of an unarmed Guinean immigrant named Amadou Diallo, angering some of the blue-collar segments of his fanbase.

But taking on Trump is a cause of a different magnitude. His “Make America great again” (Maga) movement has proved uniquely polarising in US culture, forcing many people to choose whether they are on the blue team or red team.

The clothes people wear, the food they eat and the music they listen to have become signifiers of Maga. Even some in New Jersey, where Springsteen grew up and now lives in the town of Colts Neck, are having doubts.…….

MT offered statistical facts, and you won't address them. Why is that?

    1. If it wasn’t biased it wouldn’t be labeled “opinion”. You know this. These stats were quite likely cherry picked.

    2. Do you suppose that the ABA re-evaluated based on rulings during that year?

    3. No shirt.

President Donald Trump has shared a baseless conspiracy theory that former President Joe Biden died and was replaced by a robotic clone.

Late Saturday night, Trump, 78, shared a Truth Social post claiming his former political opponent, Biden, 82, was killed in 2020 and replaced by a clone – unbeknownst to Democrats.

“There is no #JoeBiden–executed in 2020,” the post reads.

The post goes on to claim that the real Biden was replaced by “clones doubles & robotic engineered soulless mindless entities” and that “Democrats don’t know the difference.”

Trump’s supporters were quick to get behind his message, some sharing side-by-side memes of Biden claiming “these are not the same people,” and others egging on Trump for “trolling.”

Some commentators pointed to Biden’s earlobes, claiming that before 2020, they appeared to be unattached to his head, whereas now they are.

Another even insisted that the government televised giving Biden a “funeral cannon salute at Arlington” on his Inauguration Day.…….

Trump’s camp is saying the pay to repair any damage

I wouldn’t trust that at all.

I don’t know if it’s changed but last I heard Trump still owes DC for the 2017 inauguration

And even IF DC does get paid paid, what about the time it takes to do the repairs?

Driving in DC is a nightmare enough without large swaths closed because tanks chewed the road up to gravel
    =============================

Donald Trump’s birthday military parade could cause as much as $16 million worth of damage to the streets of Washington, D.C., officials estimate.

The June 14 parade, which will celebrate the Army’s 250th anniversary, is being held on the president’s own 79th birthday and will cost around $45 million. That price tag includes the estimated damage.

Trump himself has called the cost of the parade “peanuts compared to the value of doing it.”

Organizers say that the parade will consist of around 130 vehicles, including 28 M1A1 tanks, 28 Bradley Fighting Vehicles, 28 Stryker armored fighting vehicles and artillery launchers being towed.

A flyover of the U.S. capital will be undertaken by more than 50 helicopters, while 7,000 soldiers will march in the streets. There will also be at least eight bands, three dozen horses and two mules.

The Army has said that it will cover all repair costs to the District’s streets, which it estimates will be $16 million, according to NBC News.

It has already said that it would place thick metal plates as long as 20ft down where tanks will turn on the parade route, at a cost of $3 million.

Earlier this week, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said she was “concerned” about the scope of damage that the tanks and armored vehicles could cause.

"These are, for the most part, local streets, and if they're rendered in unusable, we have to make them usable,” she said.

"Probably we would fix it and then go seek our money from the Fed," she said. "That gives me some concern about fronting costs and waiting for them to get back."……….

They’re going to repair damages with our money. So of course it will be paid for. Trump’s not going to pay a dime, the Army says it will pay. The Army gets its money from us.

I doubt they pay for it at all, they will leave the city to pay for it. Just like all the costs, like Trump always does.
