This is going to need a thread as we move forward - there are now clear signs that Trump supports a new, critical if not dubious approach on vaccination, and his HHS nominee RFK Jr. regularly espouses eating raw milk and raw meat . . . dietary components most experts agree are more dangerous than their heated counterparts.

Health is certainly one of those areas were anti-institutionalism and turning to popular influencers over medical science comes with genuine risk of harm.

Today Trump provided his most clear indication that he is a vaccine skeptic - claiming (falsely of course) that the USA doesn't "do as well" as other nations that use no vaccines at all.

Florida health officials announced this week that an individual at Fort Lauderdale’s Dillard High School had contracted tuberculosis.

The case was reportedly in a student. Broward County school officials said some other students had also been identified as exposed to the bacterial infection, sparking fears of yet another recent U.S. outbreak. Few details have been released about the student involved.

“They did contact tracing and they have identified a certain number of kids that they are thinking have been exposed and they’re going to test those kids based on parental consent to see if they’re actually confirmed cases, also,” Broward County Public Schools Superintendent Howard Hepburn toldreporters.

Tuberculosis is the world’s deadliest infectious disease, and kills more than one million people every year.

While the U.S. has made major strides combatting tuberculosis, recent surges serve a reminder that the preventable illness has not yet been eradicated.

Its symptoms can be severe, including coughing up blood, a fever and night sweats.

After taking a tour of the school, which includes 1,900 students, Hepburn said students did not seem particularly worried. Although, the case has had an impact on attendance levels.…..

Man, we're months away from a dysentery outbreak! 21st Century is the new 19th Century.

so a antivaxxer parent can really fork this up then.

Of course, get rid of it because Biden and the chicken pushers don't like it.

USDA withdraws plan to limit salmonella levels in raw poultry: What to know

    What they're saying:

The withdrawal drew praise from the National Chicken Council, an industry trade group, which said the proposed rule was legally unsound, misinterpreted science, would have increased costs and created more food waste, all "with no meaningful impact on public health."

"We remain committed to further reducing salmonella and fully support food safety regulations and policies that are based on sound science," said Ashley Peterson, the group's senior vice president of science and regulatory affairs.

    The other side:

Meanwhile, the move prompted criticism from food safety advocates, including Sandra Eskin, a former USDA official who helped draft the plan.

The withdrawal "sends the clear message that the Make America Healthy Again initiative does not care about the thousands of people who get sick from preventable foodborne salmonella infections linked to poultry," Eskin said in a statement.

It's like RFK on a mission to destroy science and medical care in this country in 4 short years. His extreme ignorance and ego will kill so many people, it's already started in less than 100 days. It's mind-numbingly depressive that you can say that about Trump and his whole cabinet full of idiots.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has announced a new investigation into toothpaste makers over fluoride, despite its benefit in helping to fight cavities and being recognized as one of the nation’s greatest public health achievements.

Fluoride, a naturally occurring mineral found in the soil and water, is used to strengthen tooth enamel. Ingesting too much can come with side effects, including death.

However, negative health impacts are incredibly rare, and toothpaste levels are considered safe when applied as recommended.

But, the Republican is launching an investigation into some of the largest toothpaste makers.

He claims Colgate and Proctor & Gamble have “illegally” marketed their products to parents and children “in ways that are misleading, deceptive, and dangerous.”

Requests for comment from the companies were not immediately returned to The Independent.

Paxton’s inquiry is linked to a National Toxicology Program meta-analysis that previously determined with “moderate confidence” that there is a link between higher levels of exposure to fluoride and lower IQ scores in children.

Notably, the study said that there was “insufficient data to determine if the low fluoride level of 0.7 mg/L currently recommended for U.S. community water supplies has a negative effect on children’s IQ.”

Dentists have criticized the National Toxicology Program for using “unorthodox research methods, flawed analyses, lack of clarity, failure to follow the norms of peer review, and lack of transparency.”

Other studieshave found no link between fluoride and IQ – although some Americans are exposed to higher than recommended levels because of natural fluoride contamination.…….

(CNN) — Measles could become endemic in the United States if routine childhood vaccination rates continue to decline, with up to 51 million illnesses over a 25-year period, according to a new study.

Although the disease is endemic in some other countries – meaning it happens regularly within an area or community – it was declared eliminated in the US in 2000 because of vaccination efforts with the highly effective measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine.

More than 900 measles cases have been recorded in the US this year, according to a CNN tally using data from state health departments and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In the quarter decade since measles was declared eliminated in the US, there has been only one other year with more cases.

More than half of US states have reported at least one case this year, but the vast majority have been linked with an outbreak centered on an area of West Texas with a large unvaccinated population. Three people – two children and one adult – have died, all of whom were unvaccinated.

The new model, published Thursday in the journal JAMA, looks at the potential spread of the disease in the US over 25 years based on different vaccination levels calculated using data from 2004-23.

The researchers – from Stanford, Baylor, Rice and Texas A&M universities – estimate current state-by-state vaccination coverage for measles at 87.7% to 95.6%…….

SO somehow they will come up with new cures and help no one has thought of in many years? The CDC is now just an antivaxxer church.

RFK Jr. Tells CDC To Go All In On Bogus Vitamin ‘Cures’ For Measles

HHS announced Friday that Kennedy, a prominent spreader of anti-vaccine conspiracy theories and propaganda, is directing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to come up with more measles treatments ― even though decades of research have never turned up effective treatments for measles, reinforcing the importance of the highly effective vaccine.
“Secretary Kennedy will be enlisting the entire agency to activate a scientific process to treat a host of diseases, including measles, with single or multiple existing drugs in combination with vitamins and other modalities,” HHS spokesperson Andrew Nixon said in a statement.
The directive comes because Kennedy and department officials “recognize that some individuals and communities across the U.S. may choose not to vaccinate,” Nixon continued.
