WASHINGTON—House Republicans failed in their effort to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who they alleged has refused to enforce U.S. immigration laws to stop people from entering the country illegally from Mexico.

The near-party-line vote on the GOP-led measure was 214 in favor to 216 against, with a handful of Republicans joining all Democrats in opposition. Mayorkas would have been the first sitting cabinet official to be impeached in the nation’s history, underscoring the fierce politics and finger pointing over immigration policy.

It seems that 99% of the Republican party is crazy. It is so sad that only 4 voted against the impeachment, when they couldn't even point to a crime. We're teetering on a complete failure of congress. We are down to one party that cares about legislating, which means we don't have a real choice anymore.

There shouldn't be one person in the country who thinks that anything Mayorkis has does is impeachable. Not a single person.

Most of the people who believe it are Trump, and the politicians who will say and do anything he tells them to. And they don’t really believe it either. If we put it to a vote in the general public he would not be impeached.

Just because we have a loud vocal minority who is under the sway of a would-be authoritarian at the moment is no reason to throw out our democracy. We are living through something similar to the Communist witch hunts of the 1950s’. This will break. I think it already is starting.
