Harris VP watch (1 Viewer)

I would be fine with Shapiro, but I have seen some recent concerns about his being non-supportive of unions in general and his support of school vouchers. Not familiar personally with these issues as they relate to him so I have no way to know if they are legitimate concerns or somebody supporting a different person sounding off.

I like Kelly a lot. And I’m warming up to Cooper the more I hear about him.

My sister lives in NC and loves Cooper. He is well liked with conservatives. I don’t know much about Shapiro outside of what has been said since Biden’s announcement to step down.

I wasn’t aware of those concerns. Not sure where the anti-union stuff is coming from, though. If there’s something to that, I’d like to understand it better.

My main issue right now with Cooper is age. I’d rather a younger ticket that raises the profile of a VP for a future run. That’s not a hill for me to die on, though.

Wining this election is the most important immediate goal.

Shapiro was just sworn in in 2023, should probably serve a complete term.

Cooper is term limited. So an experienced governor. I like experienced governors.

    Go with Cooper.

Yeah. A lot are not crazy about Shapiro because they believe he's further right than desired.

Counterpoint is that PA essentially wins the race for Harris, doesn’t it? Without PA it’s much harder to get there.

Yeah. A lot are not crazy about Shapiro because they believe he's further right than desired.

I know there are concerns that selecting Shapiro could reignite Palestine-Israel divides within the party, and that’s something that has to be weighed carefully, no matter where anybody stands on that issue.

If we’re approaching this from the standpoint of safest picks, what would that list look like?

If Kelly is a going to be a problem for unions, that could be a dealbreaker. Potentially the same for Shapiro and the Pro-Palestinian faction.

Cooper? Walz? I haven’t given much attention to them yet.

Solid list of 10. Here are my downsides to each pick:
    1. Sen. Kelley (AZ) - risks a Sen seat in 2026 when new election
    2. Gov. Shapiro (PA) - Pro-Israel talk risk young voters who are Pro-Gaza, 1yr as Gov.
    3. Gov. Beshear (KY) - not a swing state
    4. Gov. Whitmer (MI) - all female ticket
    5. Gov. Pritzker (IL) - billionaire, not a swing state
    6. Gov. Newsom (CA) - all CA ticket can’t work
    7. Gov. Moore (MD) - all minority ticket
    8. Sec. Buttigieg - doesn’t check straight white male box
    9. Gov. Cooper (NC) - 67yo, limited future
    10. Gov. Waltz (MN) - ???
I look at the list and think the 2-term Gov. Waltz, Cooper, and Bashear make the most sense followed by Sen Kelly.
