Abbott and DeSantis have been loading up undocumented immigrants and sending them on buses and planes to places like DC and even Martha's Vineyard. The immigrants have indicated that they did not know where they were going, and did not even know where they were when interviewed. Abbott and DeSantis seem to believe that it is unfair that their states have to deal with undocumented immigrants while lawmakers in DC refuse to make significant changes to the process or border security - so this entitles them to this kind of action involving the transportation of human beings.

But while their opinions about it may be understandable, their actions in trafficking human beings for purposes of a political stunt appear to be illegal under both federal and state law. These relocations are not pursuant to any legitimate federal or state immigration program. The governors are simply loading these people up and shipping them out - and they are doing it for exploitative purpose: a political stunt to drive support from the base. The fact that they send photographers along underscores that this purpose is exploitative.

Under the federal Immigration and Nationality Act Sec. 274(a)(1)(A)(ii), it is a crime to knowingly transport an illegal alien across state lines. http://www.lawandsoftware.com/ina/INA-274-sec1324.html.

Under Florida statutes, Title 46 Section 787.06, defines the criminal activity of human trafficking as "transporting, soliciting, recruiting, harboring, providing, enticing, maintaining, purchasing, patronizing, procuring, or obtaining another person for the purpose of exploitation of that person."

Texas's trafficking statute is more specific about the kind of exploitation that makes it illegal - and requires some kind of transportation for purposes of sexual exploitation or forced labor, so the Texas law probably does not apply to this conduct. Texas Penal Code Title 5, Section 20A.

So if the people he shipped around had already applied for Asylum and been paroled, it may not be trafficking.
Also, some of the asylum hearings were already scheduled in Texas, and now it will be tough to make their court dates, which would be a violation.

I would hope that something about this is illegal, if it's not it should be.

These allegations are part of the lawsuit against DeSantis. It was and is a straight up dick move:

Vertol has a long aviation history and was connected to Boeing for awhile. May still be, don't know. Florida has a lot of aerospace companies around Orlando and than there's Pensicola which I think Vertol is close to. So, I would assume, anything the governor can do for these companies, he will.

They still defrauded those people by lying to them and making promises that they never intended to keep and had no way of assuring.
Sounds like every election cycle any of us have ever been a party to, so really they are receiving their first taste of Americana.

Remember that flight that happened without the migrants? Well….

The Texas sheriff probing Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s deportation of migrants last week has said his office has received numerous “hateful emails” and threats following the announcement.

On Wednesday, a spokesperson for the Bexar County Sheriff said “there have been numerous threats, an influx of calls to our dispatch and administrative offices, along with hateful emails received” since the announcement of the investigation, Vice News was first to report.

“Additionally, as in any instance when our office receives threats precautionary measures will be made for safety of all personnel,” the spokesperson added.

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said on Saturday that he was working with “attorneys who are representing the victims as well as advocacy organisations” following an outcry over the stunt, which see two planes fly more than 50 Venezuelan migrants from Flordia to the exclusive island off Martha’s Vineyard off Massachusetts..........

These governors are showing what they would be like as Presidents. Careless and flaunting laws. We’ve had enough of that with Trump. I hope Republicans come back to the law and order culture they promoted in the past.

Lol, his explanations make zero sense:

"You end up with a car with maybe two, and if we know that's illegal, and there's someone that's kind of smuggling them, they're committing crimes, and you can do arrests."

He DID just admit that he was a criminal, right?

To hear Ron DeSantis tell it, his splurge of up to $12m of Florida taxpayers’ money to fly migrants between two states he’s not governor of is all Joe Biden’s fault.

The US president’s border policies, the Republican Florida governor insists, left him no alternative but to step in to the immigration fight, which he did by dumping two planeloads of mostly Venezuelan asylum seekers from Texas in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, last week with no advance notice.

“Florida gave them an opportunity to seek greener pastures in a sanctuary jurisdiction that offered greater resources for them,” DeSantis’s office claimed in a statement painting him as a champion of the immigrants’ welfare who is “sharing the burden” of border states……

Floridians could use that money that DeSantis wasted to help victims of hurricane Ian. DeSantis just said on TV that he has asked people to donate money, because that is what they need. That hypocrite should've had a tiny bit of forethought.

    Still at it

The Republican governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, plans to continue flying undocumented migrants to Democratic strongholds, his spokeswoman said on Saturday, a day after released records showed the state paid nearly $1m to arrange two sets of flights to Delaware and Illinois.

Documents released on Friday showed that the planned flights will transport about 100 migrants. They were scheduled for before 3 October but were halted or postponed. The contractor hired by Florida extended the window for the trips until 1 December, according to memos released by the state transportation department.

Asked why the flights were postponed, DeSantis’s communications director, Taryn Fenske, said Florida had been busy dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Ian…….

Pretty dumb considering the amount of assistance we are all sending Florida right now. Almost 400 million through FEMA alone and this is just the beginning.

    "Release Date:
    October 15, 2022
WASHINGTON -- Glades and Pasco counties are now eligible for FEMA Individual Assistance after Hurricane Ian, bringing to 26 the number of counties eligible. As of Oct. 15, more than $387.4 million in assistance has been approved for Florida."
