Abbott and DeSantis have been loading up undocumented immigrants and sending them on buses and planes to places like DC and even Martha's Vineyard. The immigrants have indicated that they did not know where they were going, and did not even know where they were when interviewed. Abbott and DeSantis seem to believe that it is unfair that their states have to deal with undocumented immigrants while lawmakers in DC refuse to make significant changes to the process or border security - so this entitles them to this kind of action involving the transportation of human beings.

But while their opinions about it may be understandable, their actions in trafficking human beings for purposes of a political stunt appear to be illegal under both federal and state law. These relocations are not pursuant to any legitimate federal or state immigration program. The governors are simply loading these people up and shipping them out - and they are doing it for exploitative purpose: a political stunt to drive support from the base. The fact that they send photographers along underscores that this purpose is exploitative.

Under the federal Immigration and Nationality Act Sec. 274(a)(1)(A)(ii), it is a crime to knowingly transport an illegal alien across state lines. http://www.lawandsoftware.com/ina/INA-274-sec1324.html.

Under Florida statutes, Title 46 Section 787.06, defines the criminal activity of human trafficking as "transporting, soliciting, recruiting, harboring, providing, enticing, maintaining, purchasing, patronizing, procuring, or obtaining another person for the purpose of exploitation of that person."

Texas's trafficking statute is more specific about the kind of exploitation that makes it illegal - and requires some kind of transportation for purposes of sexual exploitation or forced labor, so the Texas law probably does not apply to this conduct. Texas Penal Code Title 5, Section 20A.

It seems that the FL law DeSantis used specifies it is to be used for immigrants located in FL. Which these were definitely not. What a giant ignoramus. How did this man get through law school?

Also - it now appears that some DHS employees were possibly in on the scheme. They falsified paperwork (allegedly) by putting down false addresses for the migrants who were sent to MV. Some of the people that were stranded on MV have deadlines to report to ICE on Monday in random towns across the country - Tacoma, WA, in Florida or DC. If they don’t report on time they could be permanently barred from the US. Obviously this was a cruel, sadistic stunt.

forking disgusting!!! I say all of them deserve a green card and the State of Florida should be on the hook for any and all of their "entitlements".

I don't think anyone was "in on it", but this did bring to light another problem.

Many of the CBP guys just don't care about the people involved. They will put in fake addresses to get people assigned to courts with less of a backlog, because they want the people to get deported as quickly as possible.

I doubt DeSantis had anything to do with that part of it.

That was unbelievably incoherent! The only part that made any sense was the part about "most" of them planning to go to Florida, so he pre-emptively transported them to Florida from Texas at Florida's expense and then sent them to another state. Where is the proof of those plans? I'd like to hear some interviews of the migrants to know what they were planning. Not that it matters anyway, because the smart (for Florida's tax payers) and legal thing to do was to wait for them to arrive in Florida and then transport them elsewhere. The rest was babbling incoherently about policing how many people are in cars, because most cars may not have migrants in them. What?!

Not only that, but I'm still trying to make sense of the "logic" being used. We took people who were 1,150 miles away (using San Antonio/Orlando as reference points) who were going to come here, and we moved them 1,350 miles away (using Martha's Vineyards/Orlando as reference points. I can't see how that extra 200 miles keeps them from travelling to Florida.

Can someone PLEASE explain to me what it is Hannity is trying to do here? He wasn't TRYING to get Ted Cruz to admit on television that the governor of his own state, a member of his own party, committed a criminal act...right??

    Oh oh...

This forking quote from the DeSantis flunky enduces rage. The shear nevrve of this birch disrespecting a Sheriff that has to deal with immigration issues daily. All after they came here , braking laws, lying an decieving people and treating those people like pawns who's only value was to fulfill their cruelty quota.

    🤬

When asked about the investigation, DeSantis spokesperson Taryn Fenske gave CNN the following statement: “Immigrants have been more than willing to leave Bexar County after being abandoned, homeless, and ‘left to fend for themselves.’

“Florida gave them an opportunity to seek greener pastures in a sanctuary jurisdiction that offered greater resources for them, as we expected. Unless the MA national guard has abandoned these individuals, they have been provided accommodations, sustenance, clothing and more options to succeed following their unfair enticement into the United States, unlike the 53 immigrants who died in a truck found abandoned in Bexar County this June.

A point being made on Twitter is that you don’t hear New Mexico or California complaining about a border crisis. Do they not get asylum seekers or people crossing the border? What do they do differently than Texas and Arizona? Why can they seem to handle it?

The inference is that a large part of the “crisis” in TX and AZ is for political points. And we definitely know that is the case for FL, because they can’t find enough people to fill their planes.

And now DeSantis is having his planes stop on the tarmac of a FL airport for 10 minutes before taking off again and flying to their destinations. Sounds like an attempt to comply with the letter of the FL law even though he is wasting millions of taxpayer money going against the spirit of the law.

I think some of the blue states should transport their homeless to Texas' and Florida's governor's houses and their shelters in a one-for-one trade.

So if the people he shipped around had already applied for Asylum and been paroled, it may not be trafficking.
