FBI Comes Up Empty Handed In Search For Jan 6 Plot (1 Viewer)

I will refer you to the Associated Press book of style entry regarding the language their reporters were advised to use for their reporting of the Jan 6th melee.

    Colleagues,

We are being questioned about the correct language to apply to the protesters backing President Donald Trump in Washington and the dramatic events taking place today at the U.S. Capitol.

AP style in the event of civil disturbances allows editors and journalists to choose the term that in their judgment best applies. So far, our main story has spoken of a “chaotic protest aimed at thwarting a peaceful transfer of power,” a “melee” and a “raucous, out-of-control scene.”

MOB, RIOT OR INSURRECTION OK: Considering that armed protesters broke into the building, overwhelmed Capitol police, interrupted the process of certifying Electoral College votes and forced the evacuation of the vice president of the United States and members of Congress, “protest” may be too mild a word for the action without surrounding it with strong adjectives and context, such as “violent protest” or “rioting protesters.” Calling it a “mob” or a “riot” would also be appropriate, especially when the protesters’ actions were wild, widespread, violent and uncontrolled. The term “insurrection,” meaning the act of rising up against established authority, could also be justified.

NOT A COUP: Some people and broadcasters are calling the protesters’ action a “coup” or a “coup attempt,” meaning a sudden, organized seizure of political power or an attempt by a faction or group to seize political power suddenly outside of the law. We may of course quote others alleging a coup or attempted coup, but so far AP has not seen conclusive evidence that the protesters’ specific aim was to take over the government, so at this stage we are avoiding the term in AP copy unless attributed.

We are going to be seeing a lot of facts coming from the Jan 6 committee this year. There was extensive planning and plotting. Of course the vast majority of the people present weren’t in on the plan, they were used as pawns.

But there were some militia members that were involved in planning to breach the Capitol that day, they came armed and prepared for hand to hand combat. They knew what was expected of them. Steve Bannon and Michael Flynn knew what they were going to do, at the very least. We will have to see how many more knew about it. I find it hard to believe that Trump wasn’t involved in the planning himself. He had one goal, to delay the counting of the electoral votes. Rudy said they would need 10 days to either recount the votes and throw out enough Biden votes to change the outcome or to get the swing states to send alternate slates of electors. They were leaning hard on some state legislators.

Cruz made clear in his official Senate objection that he was asking for a 10 day delay to ascertain the integrity of the election. Is that coincidence? I don’t know, but it seems pretty convenient.

Of course, by Jan 6 almost all of their court cases alleging widespread fraud had been thrown out. There was and still isn’t any proof of enough fraud to change the outcome. Wisconsin Rs recently quietly concluded an investigation and came to the conclusion that there were not enough irregularities to change the outcome in that state. Arizona, Michigan and GA have come to the same conclusion. Texas has done a preliminary audit, and found no widespread fraud.

All of these states have found the occasional one-off vote here and there, like always. They are pretty evenly distributed for both candidates. The voter fraud issue is a complete fabrication. The Jan 6 regular people who got caught up in the insurrection were played for fools, heck they still are being played for fools.

But there are some really bad people who want to destroy this country who were and are involved. This is going to be a really big story this year. I only hope that the regular Rs are up to the challenge and are willing to put the survival of this country ahead of party loyalty.

Wasn't the committee that is investigating this formed after the FBI made this determination? Why are you posting a 6 month old article?
Look, The FBI are professional law enforcement and expert criminal investigators. There is nothing those Democrat butt crevasses could ever add to it.

Horsedung. The FBI are professional crime investigators. If they say there was no insurrection and no plot to take over, there was none. Lots of us saw the evidence of election fraud on UTube and TV, so Trump is not lying at all. What he says is free speech and not subversive at all. You butt crevasses will never silence us with your threats. There was fraud and we will keep saying it.

    90-95% one off...

Citing an op ed with these phrases is not proof of anything.

Of 570 only 40 charged with conspiracy.

On what planet does 40 conspiracy charges equal no conspiracy?
The Conspiracy was not to take over the government, but to disrupt an official proceeding. TRy reading the damn article.

I saw flat earthers on TV and videos on Youtube making claims of alien shapeshifters impersonating humans. What's your point?

Why have 40 some people been charged with conspiracy then by the DOJ? There apparently was a conspiracy, and it involved some prominent figures in Trump’s orbit. It may have even involved Trump himself.

As an aside, you should read the the TOS of this website. This is a private website and the owner insists on civil discussions. You haven’t been following his requests as to the tenor of conversations and those of us who have been here for a while know that he is serious about it.

People who think there was widespread election fraud have been conned. There’s really no other way to look at it. Republican election officials from multiple states have explained the fallacies in the allegations repeatedly. Extra investigations done by Republicans in multiple states have come up empty, as I mentioned in my post. The allegations are nonsensical and filled with errors. Even sloppy errors, such as comparing vote totals for a county in Michigan, IIRC, with the population of a county by the same name in another state to allege that there was a 400% overvote or some such nonsense. One of the documents I reviewed said that Stacy Abrams was the Secretary of State in GA for pete’s sake. These are just completely egregious and clownish errors. There was no voter fraud of any consequence in the 2020 presidential election, and that is just fact at this point.

That wasn't just an ordinary every day official proceeding. If that particular official proceeding had been disrupted, wouldn't that have resulted in a take over of our government?

    That's how we see it.

Not only that, though. The objective was to disrupt and delay the official proceeding. By exactly 10 days, by which time they hoped to have leaned hard enough on at least three swing states to throw out the votes of the citizens and send alternate slates of Trump electors. Which would throw the whole election to the House, which they knew would result in overthrowing the actual will of the people and the valid election results.

Overthrowing a valid election and installing the Electoral College loser as president is definitely a takeover of our government. They were definitely involved in an insurrection.

    That's what dominoes are.

    I did.

Do you realize that 90% isn't a lack of? It's a small proportion, but it's not absence or zero.

Scant evidence means there's some, but not overwhelming.

apparently struggled means it was difficult, but not impossible.

    Maybe you should read it.

You should follow your own advice: read the damn article and read the damn sources linked in it. If you do, you'll realize that the opinion piece on The Hill is a mischaracterization of the Reuters article linked, since:
    - the Reuters article quotes "sources", not the FBI, or agents directly involved in the investigation.
    - the Reuters article doesn't say the FBI has come empty handed; in fact, it claims that by August 20 (the date the Reuters article was posted) they had found some evidence of a conspiracy.

And since you obviously don't know, FYI, some of those treasonous ******* already pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges.

And, the "official proceeding" was the certification of the presidential election results, not a vote on what to have for lunch.

If this is the best you can do, I'd suggest you just go back to whichever board you came from. You won't hack it here.
