Elon Musk struck a deal on Monday to buy Twitter for roughly $44 billion, in a victory by the world’s richest man to take over the influential social network frequented by world leaders, celebrities and cultural trendsetters.

Twitter agreed to sell itself to Mr. Musk for $54.20 a share, a 38 percent premium over the company’s share price this month before he revealed he was the firm’s single largest shareholder. It would be the largest deal to take a company private — something Mr. Musk has said he will do with Twitter — in at least two decades, according to data compiled by Dealogic.

“Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated,” Mr. Musk said in a statement announcing the deal. “Twitter has tremendous potential — I look forward to working with the company and the community of users to unlock it.”

The deal, which has been unanimously approved by Twitter’s board, is expected to close this year, subject to a vote of Twitter shareholders and certain regulatory approvals.

The blockbuster agreement caps what had seemed an improbable attempt by the famously mercurial Mr. Musk, 50, to buy the social media company — and immediately raises questions about what he will do with the platform and how his actions will affect online speech globally.

If Musk does what he claims he wants to do it will be a big improvement and good for free speech.

Stewart Rhodes got his law degree from Yale and manage to shoot his own eye out, a feat of stupidity only surpassed by being found guilty of seditious conspiracy.
Yeah that guy is a piece of work. His wife stripped his way thru school. So yeah no school debt for him. The jail time for that guy made me happy on so many levels.

So we are learning. I used to think it was a cut above. Now my state school doesn’t look so bad, lol.
I know it's fun to tease those Ivy league schools, and they do things that warrant it at times. That said, some of them are no joke. My oldest son attended RPI for a year, and he got wrecked. He's a student at GMU here in Virginia now and he said RPI was incredibly stressful and there's really no time to mess around there. They really are on a different level and a lot of students don't last long there.

I assume that RPI is Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. My cousin’s daughter graduated from there with an aerospace engineering degree. You are right that it is difficult.

That’s not Ivy League, is it? I was talking about those schools, I know there are tough schools out there. The Ivy League has this vaunted reputation, yet we are seeing people like Jenna Ellis, Rhodes, Pompeo, DeSantis, Cruz, Hawley, etc all come from them. I’m less than impressed with those folks.

“There are eight Ivy League schools: Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, Princeton University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Yale University. All Ivy League schools are private and located in the Northeast.”

While you're correct in that RPI is not an Ivy League school, their reputation as a top school in the country is well known. Sort of MIT lite.

As for those people that you cited, every school has them. Some more than others. Just because they go there, often because they have money and connections, doesn't make the school any less good or challenging. I know a couple of my son's classmates who attended Yale and Harvard and they echoed similar sentiments that my son had from his first hand experience at RPI. So while they might have some issues, they're still by and large great places to get an education.

Well, my comment was sort of meant as a light-hearted statement rather than a condemnation of those schools. But, I will tell you that in the past I would automatically assume someone from one of the Ivys was extremely smart and probably correct about stuff. But now I don’t assume anything. 😁

BTW, I didn’t copy the tweet but I recently reported a tweet that said “I am anti-kid, and pro-rape” during a discussion of child abuse.

I just got the report back - twitter says this doesn’t violate their standards. So how many advertisers are going to stick around for that level of discussion?

Yeah, I probably should have read between the lines, lol. It's all good. :9:

Thank Dubya for blowing that myth out of the water. lol

So, I had not seen what Ye is using for his campaign. 🤦‍♀️

    =============================
Elon Musk said on Wednesday he expects a brain chip developed by his health tech company to begin human trials in the next six months.

During a presentation by Musk’s company Neuralink, Musk gave updates on the company’s wireless brain chip. In addition to forecasting clinical trials, Musk said he plans to get one of the chips himself.

“We want to be extremely careful and certain that it will work well before putting a device into a human,” said Musk, according to Reuters.

Neuralink says it is developing brain-chip interfaces that could restore a person’s vision, even in those who were born blind, and restore “full body functionality”, including movement and verbal communication, for people with severed spinal cords, reported CNBC.

The chip interface that targets motor cortex could be tested in humans as soon as six months, the company said.

The company does not have permission from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to sell the device, but Musk said on Wednesday that most of the FDA paperwork for approval to implant the device into a human being had been submitted.

Neuralink has been testing on animals as it awaits approval on clinical trials……..

Man, I can't wait until Anonymous hacks Elon Musk.

Anonymous has been pretty meme worthy since like 2007. They're not nearly as strong as they used to be as a lot of the really skilled people either got poached by the FBI or left. Now its just low to mid level hurr durr type people who are mooching off their rep from back then.

I don't understand how Elon would conclude that that photo would incite violence.

I'm not saying Ye shouldn't have been banned, but I think if the old twitter crew had done this, Elon would be talking about censorship today.

I've been told that's not the reason why Kanye was banned; rather, it was a picture of Musk depicted as a beached whale.

In any case, I am sure SaintsForLife will be here momentarily to express his outrage at Kanye being banned.
