Charlie Kirk has been fatally shot (1 Viewer)

Since Charlie Kirk’s killing, the rightwing podcast sphere has been in overdrive: eulogizing, grieving, praying, appointing blame and calling for retribution.

Kirk’s podcast, The Charlie Kirk Show, now No 1 on the podcast charts, has had a rotating cast of hosts including Tucker Carlson, Glenn Beck and JD Vance, who used his appearance to announce a crackdown on “far-left” groups, promising to “dismantle” them in Kirk’s name.

“Manosphere” mainstay Joe Rogan was initially quiet on the Kirk shooting, releasing prerecorded episodes while he was away elk hunting.

On Tuesday he began challenging the official narrative of the killing, but has been more focused on the practicalities of the weapon used and the getaway than exploring the motivations of the killer, perhaps because Kirk was too much of an explicit rightwing partisan to chime with Rogan’s libertarianism.

With Rogan steering clear of Kirk’s politics, other rightwing figures in the podcast space are pushing their own narratives and conspiracy theories about Kirk’s death and shooting up the podcast charts as they do so – chief among them Candace Owens, who is now No 2 on Spotify’s trending podcast chart, just behind Kirk’s podcast.

Owens has spent the past week using her podcast to cast doubt that Kirk’s killing was the action of a sole shooter. (Tyler Robinson, 22, is facing charges of aggravated murder and felony discharge of a firearm, among others, in the death of Kirk.)

This week she published podcasts titled: “Charlie Kirk Suspect Charged. Something Isn’t Right…”, “Who Ordered the Hit on Charlie Kirk?” and “They Are Lying About Charlie Kirk.”

But Owens is not convinced by the Donald Trump-led conspiracy that the organised left is to be blamed for Kirk’s killing. Instead, she is pushing an alternate theory that Kirk’s death is part of a large global conspiracy with Israel at the centre.

She is not alone in believing there is an Israeli plot behind Kirk’s murder – a number of far-right influencers including Ian Carroll and Jackson Hinkle have suggested that Israel may have played a role, so much so that Benjamin Netanyahu has issued two separate denials of his involvement.

To understand her conspiracy, you have to be very acquainted with a network of rightwing groups and podcasts that all reference each other.

Essentially Owens believes that Kirk was wavering on his support for Israel, and had invited Carlson and Dave Smith – rightwingers who do not support the war in Gaza, to Turning Point USA events, where they took to the lectern to challenge the war and the influence of Israeli funding on US politics.

She claimed Kirk told her that he was being threatened by the Israeli government and by Bill Ackman – the pro-Israel, pro-Trump hedge fund manager.……

Fercryinoutloud this country is populated by G-d idiots. Self-governing? My azz.

Hey, Candace you idiot. Kirk was pro-Israel. Of course, like much of the right he hated Jews but he supported Israel.

Just hours after Charlie Kirk’s death was confirmed, hundreds of advertisements for memorial merchandise appeared on Facebook and Instagram.

In a viral post with more than 8,000 shares and hundreds of thousands of likes, the brand See Jesus In You promoted an “Echo of Freedom” shirt with an American flag and Kirk’s signature, calling him a symbol of “faith, liberty, and America”.

The simple shirt, which Kirk was wearing when he was assassinated, has become a hot commodity among his conservative supporters.

Another clothing brand, Liberty Faith Gear, struck a much more combative tone in marketing its version of the freedom tee, as it urged “patriots [to] rise when freedom is attacked. We do not hide. We do not bow.”

Neither of these brands are affiliated with Kirk’s Turning Point USA, nor are they based in the US.

In fact, they are both run by Guangzhou Shiwei Network Technology, an e-commerce company based in Panyu, China’s fast-fashion capital in the southern province of Guangdong.

Foreign apparel and merchandise companies have rushed to cash in on Kirk’s assassination in the weeks since his assassination.

The Guardian identified at least seven other such companies hawking Kirk merch from overseas: Harbin Huanjia Trading Limited, Jinhua Hongrun E-Commerce and others with similar, nondescript names.

Like Guangzhou Shiwei, which has a history of exploiting highly partisan and culture-war-themed products, these companies flooded Facebook and Instagram with thousands of memorial merchandise ads.

The brands urged prospective buyers to honor Kirk’s legacy by purchasing their shirts, sometimes even promising to donate profits to his organizations or his family.……..

It's such an easy way to part suckers and their money. Shame I have actual morals.

I'll be honest, there is a lot about Kirk's murder that just doesn't add up. I don't really know what to believe, but I wouldn't put a conspiracy out of reach. I don't trust this FBI at all, as it seems their singular focus is putting out a narrative to please Trump and the right wing (and that isn't working). There is just rank incompetence at the FBI. And at this point, I wouldn't put anything past Israel and Mossad.

Democratic Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has said ‘There is no legacy to honor, following the assassination of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk.

Speaking to former CNN broadcaster Don Lemon, who asked Omar if she felt she needed to apologize for her previous comments on Kirk’s political views, which have led to fierce criticism by her Republican opponents, Omar responded: “I have nothing to apologize for.”

"You know, it is a tragedy that Charlie Kirk was killed in that way. I feel for his widow and his children. They will have to live with that for the rest of their lives."

She added, “But there is no legacy to honor. It was a legacy filled with bigotry, hatred, and White supremacy. And as a Black woman and as a Muslim in this country, I refuse to join the chorus that changes the history of what is on the record from this man."……….

All I care about is that it causes splintering that keeps them all from consolidating power. I don't care if it's true or not.
Agree with that. Beyond its usefulness, Candace Owens is an idiot.
