Figured we should start a separate thread on the arrests and those involved in the storming of the Capitol. I know it has been talked about in the other thread a lot, but for the ones who just want to follow the ones arrested and/or charged, this will be an easier way to see updates on the investigations.

Link below is everyone who has been arrested. But we know there will be more.

The website seems to be updated with new information daily.

The ones who are getting the most air time:

Can you define peaceful insurrection? I thought insurrections usually included violence.
Had Trump successfully convinced Pence to not certify the election.. which is what many/most of those supporters out there wanted regardless of whether they were violent.. at what point would you consider that an attempt at overthrowing the elected government of the United States?

I'd say it would absolutely be at that point that the Vice President has decided to not carry out his lawful duty and chooses to not certify an official election result in which he and the sitting President have been defeated.

Because of the unique quirk in our system that allows for a situation where a sitting Vice President must certify an election result in which his ticket has been defeated, I would certainly argue that those individuals out there in support of a scenario of Pence not certifying the result - and also not in support of violence - were still in support of something equivalent to a peaceful insurrection or coup.

And what would have happened if Pence had NOT certified the election ? Presumably the Congress could over-ride him ? It is - after all - a ceremonial act ? The election results would presumably have been certified by the individual states ?

Incidentally, to clear up some earlier confusion, it was a Capitol Police officer who killed Ashi Babbitt, who was a two-tour veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as National Guard tours of Kuwait and Qatar. .

Mike Pence had already been escorted out of the building long before Babbitt was shot; he was never in danger from Babbitt. However, there WHERE other lawmakers in the chamber. The door that Babbitt was shot climbing through led to the Speakers Lobby, which in turn led to the house chamber.

Pence doesnt have a role in certification, he is merely there to supervise the count of the electors. The states had already certified their results. The idea that Pence could do anything about the results of the election on January 6 is part of the Big Lie that Trump has told.

It is astonishing that so many just blindly believe the Big Lie to this day.

Ashli Babbitt is a victim of Donald Trump’s Big Lie, and she sadly disgraced her former honorable service by betraying her country in a way that led to her death.

Enough people acted as patriots that day to take further questions off the table.. everything's not so clear cut though if everyone just decides to follow Trump's lead and say "fork it let's see what we can do" when the entire party decides that their hell bent on Biden not becoming president.

It's not crazy because in four more years we may have the scenario play out.

    This is correct.

The one question that may need review by a thoughtful Congress (good luck with that) is that this episode exposed a weakness in the electoral college system: the process established by the Constitution but given mechanics by federal statute allow for Congress to object to the certified result of a given state. When the objection is seconded by a member of the other chamber, each house of Congress adjourns to debate the objection and then vote to sustain or dismiss it.

In this situation, there weren't enough members to sustain the objection so it was purely academic/theater or whatever you want to call it. But imagine a situation where there are enough votes. We saw that partisans have an avenue here to attempt to disregard certified election results of the states and impose their own result.

Surely the Supreme Court would have to resolve the question of what standards apply to a congressional objection to a state's certified electoral vote result (because the elected winner would immediately challenge Congress' action). History suggests that there has to be some sort of compelling irregularity in the manner in which those votes arrived or were otherwise tabulated - and the process is not a vehicle through which Congress can re-engineer a state's election or provide its own interpretation of a given state's election law.

BUT at the moment, that's not clear.

    Freedom loving patriots.

The media is trying to turn it into something other than the modern day version of Washington crossing the Delaware river that it is because they hate America.

    The article starts off with:

The siege of the Capitol had begun. The doors had been breached 20 minutes earlier. And Joshua James and Roberto Minuta, two members of the Oath Keepers militia group who just hours earlier had provided security for Trump confidante Roger Stone, were allegedly rushing to get to the action… in a golf cart.

I really think the media in its entirety is missing a huge part of this story as far as Roger Stone is concerned. There are a lot of videos posted all over Twitter of Roger Stone riding around DC in those same golf karts and even brash enough to use Oath Keepers as his own personal security team while doing so. There have been rumors on social media that Stone and the Oath Keepers - who formed an alliance with pretty much any willing, organized group of white racists who were willing to get violent in the name of Donald Trump staying in power so they could receive 4 more years of dog whistles while inappropriately touching themselves in hopes that those dog whistles became Trump policies.

The Muslim ban and Border Wall/Zero Tolerance weren't accidentally the first major policies not involving taxes (or money in general) he tried to enact. It proved that he was willing to outwardly and openly tell the world that Trump's America is White America First. The last four years made a lot of people who will never amount to anything and could have possibly just participated in the biggest accomplishment of their lives by trying to take over the Capitol feel like they were more important than they've felt in their entire lives and desperately wanted to continue feeling that way for AT LEAST another 4 years and, for reasons that have escaped me since day one, they only think they'll ever be capable of feeling that way if Donald forking Trump is POTUS. Why do they, or anyone on earth, think that Trump cares about anyone at all but himself and his image? It's not like he hasn't been this way since his first day in public life. I can only imagine that his cult feels like since they can't get away with talking and acting like Trump without being ostracized , or getting a serious beat down in some cases.

Any of y'all seen Gummo? It's a truly wild movie shot documentary style about a tornado ravaged town where people live in squalor. They look and act like they've ingested nuclear waste. That's how I imagine the future of our country on a much larger scale if we ever let anyone get away with what Trump just tried to pull off. If he weren't so damn inept and flat out stupid, he would probably be president for life with Jr. taking over when he dies. Putin, dictators and literally evil royal families were his besties in international politics while not interested at all in maintaining good relationships that have existed longer than I've been alive.

    optimus:

Not only that, but I learned a lot about how local election boards certify an election. For instance, they compare voter records against death records, which is how they discovered the instance in PA where a voter cast an illegal ballot for Trump using his deceased mother by absentee ballot. (IIRC-I know there were two instances of invalid votes discovered in PA, and both involved votes for Trump, lol)

And which is also why the lie about thousands of dead voters for Biden was so ridiculous.

Basically this guy, who was part of the insurrection on Jan. 6, was planning to blow up a VA data center and was apprehended before that could happen.

    ==================

A New Jersey man assaulted multiple U.S. Capitol Police and Metropolitan Police officers during the January 6 riots, spraying them with chemical irritants and beating them with their own riots shields, according to a filing from the U.S. Department of Justice.

Christopher Quaglin, 35, of North Brunswick, was charged earlier this week with assaulting, resisting or impeding certain officers or employees, civil disorder, and obstruction of an official proceeding.

According to an affidavit, federal investigators spotted a man, later identified as Quaglin, on law enforcement body camera video. Just after 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 6, investigators said the video caught Quaglin approaching a line of DC Police officers trying to hold back the growing crowd.

"Seemingly unprovoked," the New Jersey man yelled at the officers, "You don’t want this fight. You do not want this f--king fight. You are on the wrong f--king side. You’re going to bring a f--king pistol, I’m going to bring a f--king cannon. You wait! You wait! You wait! Stay there like a f--king sheep! This guy doesn’t know what the f--k is going on."...............

But he's a good guy otherwise, right? SMH....

I have a friend who was in the Marines, he said one his superiors (can't remember what rank) would always tell them that no matter how good of a soldier you are, no matter what you accomplish in the Military, suck one D, and that's what everyone will remember you for.

    Stupid is as stupid does...
deputies with the U.S. Marshal Service (USMS) and members of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) were “attempting to locate a missing child” when they knocked on an apartment door in Murfreesboro, Tennessee where they believed the child’s family lived.
“A man who identified himself as Michael Roche and a woman (Individual-2) were inside the Murfreesboro Apartment,” the complaint stated. “Individual-2 acknowledged that Roche had been all over the news, and that they were expecting law enforcement to come for him. The USMS deputies placed Roche in handcuffs for their safety and sat him down. Roche stated that he believed he had outstanding arrest warrants and that the USMS were there to arrest him for being in Washington, D.C. on January 6, 2021.”

Soon thereafter, USMS confirmed that there was no outstanding arrest warrant for Roche and left the apartment “without incident.” Later that day the U.S. Marshals contacted the FBI who provided the Marshal with photographs and a video of Roche from the Capitol
[U.S. Marshal William] Etheridge confirmed that the Roche who appeared in the photos and video was the same individual that Etheridge engaged with at the Murfreesboro Apartment.” .

    that would be a no

An alleged Proud Boy accused of pepper spraying police during the Capitol riot has asked to be released from custody, saying he has contracted COVID-19 while in the D.C. Jail.

In an appeal filed Thursday asking for his release, Christopher Worrell’s attorney says his client suffers from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and is at increased risk of serious complications from the coronavirus.

“The current unsanitary conditions in the D.C. jails place Mr. Worrell in grave danger given his weakened immune system,” attorney Allen H. Orenberg in an emergency appeal to the U.S. District Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.

Worrell was arrested in March after a tipster identified him to the FBI. He was subsequently identified in a number of photos from the Capitol riot appearing to spray pepper spray at law enforcement.

U.S. District Court Judge Beryl A. Howell denied a motion for Worrell’s release in March, citing, among other factors, his “unapologetic” participation in the Proud Boys, a 2009 arrest on charges he impersonated a police officer and allegations that he threatened the person who turned him in to the FBI.........

He should be fine. Trump told him that Covid was a hoax.
