I understand that when there are failures, we look to the chief executive of the organization for accountability (a concept Trump routinely rebuffed when president) but the head of the Secret Service wasn't calling the shots at this event. This idea that is being floated that the head of the Secret Service is directly responsible for failures at the event is silly - unless there's some evidence that there were specific operational conditions imposed by the front office that led to it.

The people that are a rushing to blame a woman (and "DEI") because a 20-year old man legally possessed a long-range military rifle and was able to shoot Donald Trump aren't making any sense - she wasn't there. She didn't play a role in the operational security plan. Trump, Biden, and others under USSS protection have these kinds of events - the director isn't involved in operational details.

It doesn't matter to me who gets blamed or held accountable, but most people with security backgrounds are saying huge mistakes were made with the security of Trump at the rally.

Why wouldn't you think the head of an agency with this big of a screw up should be held accountable or fired? If not who should be blamed?

I’m seeing that idea all over the place.

It’s crazy but not surprising that a young man gets an assault rifle and legally carries it to a place near where Trump was and then shot it . . . but to the MAGAs it’s DEI’s fault. But we can still ask why.

Certainly there needs to be an investigation. But I strongly doubt it’s going to show some specific decision the director made specifically to endanger Trump.

It's a little odd that you seem more concerned about people criticizing her or saying it was her fault than the obviously huge mistakes that were made that could have led to Trump's death had he not turned his head.

This would explain the misses. A rushed sniper pumping adrenaline after backing away a police officer isn't accurate. If true, then that police officer will be desk detailed until dismissed.

I don't know anything about USSS policies. I have however worked several NSSE events including the most recent NATO summit. I don't understand why those building were even accessible. I don't care if it was local responsibility or if the AGR was operational on the day of the event. I would think only badged employees would be able to get on that property through a secondary perimeter that blocked both roads.

Maybe I'm spoiled with NoLA's parade barricades and seeing DC events. Maybe it's so rural that those resources aren't available. I'm just suprised there isn't at least a 500ft perimeter for an outdoor event.

I agree and also there were people yelling he had a gun and someone yelled his name right before he fired so that could have distracted him too.

I agree again. It wasn't a hug area with a bunch of buildings to cover. Where the shooter was definitely should have been checked out and locked down so nobody could get up there.

It's been confirmed. Below is a link. But given that the officer was hanging on the ledge to pull himself up to the roof, it sounds like he wouldn't have had access to his gun. It was also literally seconds between that encounter and the shooting.
