Assassination attempt on Trump (2 Viewers)

I don’t really care what any of them say, what matters is what voters think. I’d like to see how this affects the poles over the next few weeks. Things like this usually affect how people feel.
Don't you think what elected officials publicly say has an effect on how the public would feel? They have the responsibility to ensure the public safety above all and they are doing the opposite.

I am not a subscriber but the first 2 paragraphs are telling of where we are as a country.

It’s not a very long article and not terribly useful. Here is a gift link. It was obviously rushed out in the moment. He doesn’t even link to the survey itself.

Everyone linked to yesterday’s events should be shirt canned if we are being honest.
Who? The spokesman for the Secret Service?

You should read the detailed thread I linked by a former officer who has done these details in the past. His conclusion is that the location of the shooter was what the SS considers to be “mid range” in their 3 tiers of defense. This area is normally handled by local police. The snipers have a long-range responsibility and the rest of the SS have the actual venue itself.

I do agree that the SS on the stage messed up badly. There should have never been the specter of the person they are protecting standing straight up and mouthing words and gesturing. They should have carried him out immediately covering his head. That was ridiculous.

I'd expect a small bump for Trump in the wake of this.. definitely doesn't hurt his odds.

You may not care what politicians say, but it does matter. A lot! The reason we're in this place in America is because of the violent political rhetoric in our polity.

So for example, while I'm personally unconcerned about Trump’s welfare and even believe our country would be better without him in it, I expect the politicians that I support to do exactly what Biden and Democrats are doing now, which is to condemn political violence in all forms at all times. Why? because I don't want to live in a country with political violence.

A disturbingly large percentage of Republicans only do it when it's beneficial to them, especially their standard barer Trump.

That’s a rather startling admission, isn’t it? This is the GOP’s problem in a nutshell. No accountability from anybody in the party for what they say or do, it seems.

I don’t see this affecting anyone to change from anti-Trump to pro-Trump. It doesn’t change who he is or his toxic message. George Wallace got shot while running, it didn’t boost his chances. Teddy Roosevelt was the same - got shot and lost the election.

Don't you think what elected officials publicly say has an effect on how the public would feel? They have the responsibility to ensure the public safety above all and they are doing the opposite.
I think I don’t trust most of them and think they will say anything to forward their cause. I could probably do a deep dive on the web and find inciting comments from people on both sides whether it’s about this or Jan 6 or riots in Seattle and every place else. The dangerous part is when people try to justify the violence. There is no justification for what happened yesterday. I think the responsibility also has to come from the people as much as the politicians.

    That's complete, unadulterated horse sheet.
Speaking of trash takes. That video that you claimed was BS is being shown on the news. You had no reason to think it was BS other than me posting it. Get a life

Yes, you could find horrible comments from people on both sides. But we aren’t talking about random people, we are talking about the elected leaders of our country. And the two sides are very different in their responses here.

It’s an uncomfortable truth that one of our major parties has forsaken public decency. We have to be able to face that uncomfortable truth to find our way out of this mess.

Whatever bump there is will be transitory. It’s not going to last.

Between this, and Biden’s next “VP Trump” senior moment, I don’t see the swelling going down all that much.

This election cycle is such a train wreck where the points are thrown out of the window.
