I want to become a politician and I know I have to serve everyone. However I am having an issue doing that and I was wondering how I can fix that.

A bad victim to me would be someone that intentionally mistreats others with there words and verbally abuses them or physically abuses them. Also, a bad victim to me would be someone who was going to become a bad person. Someone who was going to grow up to be a bad person in life.

How can I help these controlling jealous boyfriends and verbally abusive people as well as criminals when they become the victims of crimes just like other good victims?

Also, a jealous boyfriend who displays jealous, controlling, psycho behaviors when he is at the bar with his girlfriend. Like if any guy even gets near her or he sees her talking to them he gets very controlling and confrontational. This guy actually comes close to or is ready to fight with people who get near his girlfriend or talk to her. This guy is starting a fight or is willing to start one because he is controlling over his girlfriend.

I have personally met a couple of bad men like this in bars who have tried to or were looking to start fights with me over their girlfriends. Also, verbally abusive people at the bad high school I went to. I would consider these people as bad victims for sure and I wouldn’t feel as successful helping them.

Now if these jealous boyfriends who start fights with men at the bar and these verbally abusive people were in a different situation and became the victims of a major crime like a mass shooting, terrorist attack, etc. How am I suppose to help these people successfully like I would other good victims?

Even though they didn’t deserve to have what happened to them I still would consider them bad victims because of their past behavior. I wouldn’t feel successful helping them as I would people that were actually good victims.

Also, bad victims would also be murders, rapist, robbers and terrorist to me as well. I wouldn’t feel as successful helping these people as good victims to.

How can I help these controlling jealous boyfriends and verbally abusive people as well as criminals when they become the victims of crimes just like other good victims?

    wait, wut?

I think what you are trying to get across is that you feel you should serve everyone with the same intent, regardless if they are good or bad. Am i correct?

Yes your right. I am having trouble doing that because sometimes I disagree with them and feel like they are wrong and not good people. What should I do?

quit politics since it goes against your morality.

    become a priest.
Well no because politics is what I want to go into. I am trying to figure out a solution to this. Not go into another career.

    then lose your morality.

not sure what else to tell you. For you, there doesnt seem to be a middle ground/happy medium.

There is a middle ground it is to find a solution to my problem to still go into politics like I want to.

My advice would be to first stop thinking of people/things in such a binary way. You may disagree with somebody on a matter of policy, but that doesn't necessarily make them a bad person. Conversely, just because you agree with somebody on something, it doesn't make them a good person.

Also, just because a person does a bad thing (say break a law), it doesn't mean that the entirety of their lives is bad and that they're not worthy of representation. As a politician, you should understand that you have a responsibility to represent all the people you're elected to represent, not just those people that you agree with or that voted for you. Unfortunately, that fundamental truth of our democracy is lost among the people elected to represent us, mostly due to the horse race nature of our politics.

The whole idea of a bad victim and good victim is a misnomer. If they where the victim of a crime, then they're a victim. As a politician, just do you job and help them with that situation, if you can. That's your job. You don't have to stand in judgement as to their "worthiness of receiving help" based on the limited information you have about their lives.

Yeah that makes sense. Well how can I stop separating victims into good and bad. How can I just think of them as a victim not a good or bad victim? I tend to separate victims into good who I feel are morally good and bad who I feel are morally wrong and bad. How can I stop doing this and just help all victims good or bad?

I agree well how can I stop standing in judgement as their worthiness of them receiving help based on if they are good or bad morally and just help them?

I actually do want to fix this so I want to know how I can change this thinking because I still do want to go into politics.

There is a middle ground it is to find a solution to my problem to still go into politics like I want to.

then see post above. If you can compartmentalize the issue you seem to have with good vs bad and come to terms with the fact that you cant help everyone at the same time, then by all means, run for office.

If you cannot, then you are doing your constituents a disservice.

"With the fact you cant help everyone at the same time"

I'm confused what you mean when you said this, I am not trying to help everyone at the same time.

your description sounds more like you want to be a DA or Public Defender. Maybe a policy writer.

There is no such thing as good and bad victims.

    Only victims.

It doesn't matter this person's past - and it really doesn't matter what your thoughts on their futures are. If they were victimized by someone else, they are a victim.

This is akin to getting upset at women for dressing provocatively and being assaulted.

And if you are truly trying to get into politics in Chicago at the tender age of 23, I would say your first step is either going to law school and becoming a lawyer and work in urban development or working as an unpaid intern for an established candidate until you can be put on staff. Ten to twenty years of this and you will be ready!

In Chicago, you ain't getting elected crossing guard without connections.

That isn't something I can tell you how to do. I don't know you and don't even know what your idea of a good victim and bad victim are. I don't believe that there are good or bad victims, just victims. But I also don't think of people, in the entirety of their lives, as being victims, just that they've been victimized in a specific instance or act by a person/company/government (if it applies). It's something you'll have to figure out on your own.

My whole post literally explains what I think a bad victim is...........

Yes, you mention a jealous boyfriend and other generic "bad guys". That's not really telling me much or even in what context you think that you will need to help these people as a politician.

The position I would be in to help these victims is clear, its to help all the victims get proper justice which would be to make sure that the criminal gets the death penalty for their crimes and not life in prison. However I am not fully confident advocating that the criminal should get the death penalty for their actions because I am not sure if some of the victims are bad people which changes things for me.

The position I would be in to help is advocating that the criminal get the death penalty for the victims they hurt rather than life prison sentence. But the problem I am having as a future politician is advocating that the criminal get the death penalty instead of life in prison when I don't know if some of the victims are bad people.

I want to become a politician but I am having a hard time being an advocate for all of the victims and making sure that the criminal gets the proper punishment if that is the death penalty because I don't know if some of the victims were bad people. Basically I am having a hard time being all the victims advocates to make sure that the criminal gets the death penalty if that is the proper punishment because I am worried that some of the victims are bad people.

Basically the problem that I am having is when it comes to the criminal and advocating that they get the death penalty or life in prison for their crime. Yes the criminal should be held accountable for their actions and get life in prison However when it comes to advocating that the criminal should get the death penalty for their crime if the crime warrants it. I am having trouble being able to do that because I am not sure if some of the victims are bad people which changes things for me.
