Appeals court temporarily blocks Trump administration's ‘Remain-in-Mexico’ policy

A federal appeals court on Friday slapped a temporary halt on the Remain-in-Mexico policy -- one of the most effective Trump administration policies in halting last year’s crisis at the southern border.

The policy, which was established in January expanded over the summer amid greater cooperation with Mexico, returns migrants to Mexico as they await their hearings, with courtrooms set up at key border points in places such as Laredo and Brownsville, Texas. Approximately 57,000 people have been returned to Mexico under the policy.

The Mexicans are Mexicans, but anyone from Central America, the Caribbean, Africa, etc... please go across and leave México. You don't want to be there anyway.

News Stations have different business models. Papers rely on subscriptions for revenue. Fox news drives people to watch their station.

Ridiculous. You get a program that works and it is overturned on the basis of what? Rights of non-citizens to stay in the country?

Expect more dangerous crossings by migrants from Central America through Mexico and into our country.

System Shock, you seem to have an informed opinion about Mexico - was the Mexican government happy with the new policy? Seems like they would like the curtailment of the migrants coming through their country, but I don;t know how they felt about the camps being on their border.

Crossings have been much higher under Trump than ever.

A much more serious problem is that CBP has been giving parole to apprehended people under INA 212d5.

This is giving them what amounts to a lawful entry that can eventually be used to adjust status.

I’ve already had parents of citizens from Honduras who came here illegally in the past two years that have been able to adjust status, because they were set up for removal hearings and given humanitarian parole under 212d5 instead of some other section of 212 or INA 236 which is appropriate for someone pending a removal hearing.

Someone paroled in solely for a removal hearing should not be able to use that parole as a valid entry for the purpose of adjustment of status.

There has been enough complaining about this obvious misapplication of the law, that it must be intentional.

Trump knows we need these people here for labor, and is using the facade of an immigration crackdown to import cheap labor.

If you are talking Federal government, the Mexican President simply asked how high when the U.S. government said "jump". You have Trump taking dumps on Mexicans in the U.S. and López Obrador telling the Mexican people how much Trumps respects Mexicans on his morning "presser". The joke (if that's the right word) is that Mexicans ended up paying for the wall, just it is not concrete and not in the Northern border, but in the Southern border and made of 25,000 National Guard elements...

Now, the local governments and the people... that's another story. I can show you a number of pictures of masses of people protesting the caravans, and give you links to articles, but this picture tells you all you need to know: this is the mayor of Tijuana wearing a "Make Tijuana Great Again" hat. It's a real picture. There is a lot of shirt that has happened and keeps happening in Tijuana because of this situation.

This is something I wish attorneys on the board would pass along to colleagues who work in immigration law.

I am pro immigration, but what is going on is in opposition to the spirit of our current immigration law and is the type of thing that allows immigration to be politicized in the future because it is confusing to the public.

The law is being broken both literally and figuratively and it is not in the best interest of any of the parties controlling the branches of our government to serve as a check in this particular abuse of the public trust.

Congress wants to avoid action, the executive branch wants to provide superficial support to their promise to be tough on immigration, while the funders of both parties want to ensure access to cheap labor for the foreseeable future.
