However you feel about the so-called billionaire's tax, this is not about the tax itself. I'd much rather see the thread die empty that see the usual bickering about taxes.

It is about Bernie Sanders, once again, creating division within a party that he affiliates himself with only when it is convenient for him. In a time when everyone who's against the GOP and what's happening in the U.S. should become a unified front, here's Bernie Sanders butting heads with Gary Newsom, who could possibly be the next Democratic candidate for POTUS, right before probably the most important mid-term election cycle in U.S. history.

Whatever legislation you'd want to see, being taxes, healthcare, civil rights, abortion... you cannot effect change if you don't have the power to do so. The one goal that anyone anti GOP should have right now, is acquire that power. And when you start creating divisions this early, it is really stupid, and selfish of this old man, but not unexpected.

Speaking of Bernie Sanders, do you think the country seems him as strong? Because he attacks everything status quo that moves. Yet, the country sees him as an old curmudgeon.
No, I don’t like Bernie much at all. Never really have. I don’t think he could effectively govern, because you do need to be able to work with people at least a little bit.

I don’t think we’re super far apart on things, really. I think most people are frustrated with Dems looking weak, though. I do think Dems will win the House and maybe the Senate, but if they don’t do anything with whatever they get, independents will swing back towards the GOP.

Most people don’t pay attention to the ins and outs of what the GOP is trying to do. It’s aggravating.

What the fork does it matter how popular or unpopular Trump is right now?

We've had this discussion before. Why does the president's approval matter?

    Examples of why it matters:

    1. W. Bush 2006 - Approval below 40 - lost 30 seats
    2. Obama 2010 - Approval right at 40 - lost 63 seats
    3. Trump 2018 - Approval right at 40 - lost 40 seats

Trump right now is below 40 percent.

He was popular enough to win 2 elections, popular enough to heavily tilt the SCOTUS, and popular enough to carry lackeys into a Congressional majority. Whatever the polls say, polls don't enact laws, or bomb Iran, or give $20B to Argentina, or stop ICE civil rights violations, and so on...

About the only thing you can hope for, is that this unpopularity carries Democrats or even anti-Trump Republicans in the mid-terms. Otherwise, popularity means shirt.

History shows a direct correlation between the popularity of the president, and midterm elections. Your "polls aren't real bro" is historically not true - esp when it comes midterms.

First, define "progressive", then tell us what progressives are winning all over the country?

You can google what defines progressive politics.

It's an off cycle year, but you've had wins in NY, NJ, and Texas in the last year.

Progressive positions that now hold a majority:

    1. M4A
    2. Higher Billionaire taxes
    3. Higher Corp tax rate
    4. Abolish ICE
    5. Free tuiton

You made this thread to gripe about Bernie Sanders championing *check notes* the overwhelmingly popular position in this country.
