I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

Seriously. You don't think it matters whether one is actually guilty or not. Those scenarios are the same to you.

So, to generalise it, these two scenarios are also the same to you:

Career criminal prosecuted for all the crimes he's done by a normal administration.
Innocent person prosecuted for no crimes at all by a corrupt administration.

Your take is basically that, "they're both prosecutions of a person by an administration! So they're the same!" If the career criminal pleads the 5th to try to hinder the prosecution, that, to you, would be exactly the same as an innocent person pleading the 5th to try to avoid a malicious prosecution. It doesn't matter whether one is legitimate and the other isn't. It's the same process and the same actions, the underlying truth and the justifications for the actions are irrelevant. It's the same thing. That's your take.

I, as of yet, don't think he's guilty of any actual crime. I do think he's responsible morally for some bad choices that hurt the country. I think going "after" him is a waste of time.

I do understand the context. In one instance, someone was going to have his words probably blown out of proportion no matter what, so taking the 5th was understandable. In the other context, someone was getting 100x worse punishment than anyone in the history of that particular should be getting for their actions, so taking the 5th was understandable because the AG was going to blow anything he said out of proportion to make things worse.

I seem to recall reading at the time that several of the people convicted of the same charges received jail time

That 6 feet distancing was standard in most of Europe also and you don't wait for a "prospective clinical trial" when a pandemic is raging and people are dying in such big numbers that cooling trucks were necessary to store the dead!

Sure you do. His actions caused people to lose jobs, hurt the economy, and many other negative consequences that didn't need to happen. Again, I don't think he needs to be brought before the senate, or charged with anything. Just stating that he made choices that hurt the country.

And some scientists would argue that those things didn't happen quickly enough. But that's a part of science. Theories are tested with the best information you have available at the time. If it works, YAAAAYYY!!! If not, you come up with another theory. There is nothing morally wrong with that.

I agree. But he didn't come up with another theory, and stuck with one that wasn't based in science, and kept repeating it.

If we didn't have to worry about social distancing, and just had to wear masks, schools wouldn't have closed, restaurants wouldn't have closed, etc. Some businesses wouldn't have had to go under. So people lost jobs, kids lost a year of education, all because of a made up scienceless rule.
