    The report is here.

They make an ok argument about some things, but man, "progressivism is evil" might as well be their headline there. I read some of this, not all of it.

WaPo article (I realize not everyone has a subscription).

Historians responded with dismay and anger Monday after the White House’s “1776 Commission” released a report that it said would help Americans better understand the nation’s history by “restoring patriotic education.”

“It’s a hack job. It’s not a work of history,” American Historical Association executive director James Grossman told The Washington Post. “It’s a work of contentious politics designed to stoke culture wars.”
The commission was created in September with a confusing news conference featuring Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson. The 45-page report is largely an attack on decades of historical scholarship, particularly when it comes to the nation’s 400-year-old legacy of slavery, and most of those listed as authors lack any credentials as historians. While claiming to present a nonpartisan history, it compares progressivism to fascism and claims the civil rights movement devolved into “preferential” identity politics “not unlike those advanced by [slavery defender John C.] Calhoun and his followers.”

To put it a different way. Do you have any intention of serious discussion or be taken seriously?

You have seemingly been hiding for 2 months and this is all you have to offer?

    Yup, conservatives are persecuted.

The frustrating thing is a question was asked and people gave genuine thoughtful answers. Those of us who have read both took the time to respond not with craziness or snark, but with an honest assessment.

    The response was that drivel.

Sounds like Walsh and his 'following' needs a good 'reeducation' and 'liberation' from those those different....I mean 'racist' and 'white supremist' thoughts.

I wonder if the camps Harris and Biden are setting up for us is BYOB or will the alcohol be provided? I would also like to put in a request for my bunk to be close to the bathroom because my middle of the night bathroom trips are far more frequent the older I get.

Different doesn’t mean white supremacist or racist.

And I don’t think it’s fair to present my comment as of mutually inclusive.

there is a lot of disturbing evasion and ambivalence over things like the founding fathers and slavery in that piece. And it resonates with people who are racist and white supremacist or, at the very least, comfortable with it.

it was not merely a matter of disagreement.

disagreement would be something like... claiming that Kruse’s essay on metro traffic jams and segregation didnt incorporate or consider other factors of development. Or draw a curtain around some of the applicability to other areas.

But that’s not what the 1776 report sought to do.

and you will never find that argument from Walsh et al because they are only interested in stoking the culture war fires.

ive Said before that I don’t mind being called wrong or being asked to clarify. But the approach you’re taking here doesn’t at all account for why I used the race-baiting terms that I did.

but in one sense I do agree that people who endorse and espouse racist or white supremacy views should be educated. Same goes for the memefied screaming lib feminist college student.

of course, there’s an inherent power dynamic and corollary that makes this not really a need of equity. Just making that clear so that perhaps my words and intent aren’t so misconstrued and, subsequently, misrepresented

    6/10 for style points.
