Anxiety surges as Donald Trump may be indicted soon: Why 2024 is 'the final battle' and 'the big one'

WASHINGTON – It looks like American politics is entering a new age of anxiety, triggered by an unprecedented legal development: The potential indictment of a former president and current presidential candidate.

Donald Trump's many legal problems – and calls for protests by his followers – have generated new fears of political violence and anxiety about the unknowable impact all this will have on the already-tense 2024 presidential election

I’ll reframe this is a more accurate way, Are Presidents above the law? This new age was spurred into existence when home grown dummies elected a corrupt, mentally ill, anti-democratic, would be dictator as President and don’t bother to hold him responsible for his crimes, don’t want to because in the ensuing mayhem and destruction, they think they will be better off. The man is actually advocating violence (not the first time). And btw, screw democracy too. If this feeling spreads, we are In deep shirt.

This goes beyond one treasonous Peice of work and out to all his minions. This is on you or should we be sympathetic to the idea of they can’t help being selfish suckers to the Nation’s detriment? Donald Trump is the single largest individual threat to our democracy and it‘s all going to boil down to will the majority of the GOP return to his embrace and start slinging his excrement to support him?

The established meanings of 86 allow for a plausible explanation. I see that series of numbers posted frequently in comments on social media, so DOJ is going to be busy if they want to pursue that. It's veiled enough that the MAGA 'freedom-of-speech-so-yeah-the-N-word-is-okay' absolutists should be on his side, but they won't be.

Comey is no hero to me, or pretty much anybody on the left, so I'm not commenting out of an allegiance to him.

I don’t believe he personally was calling for an assassination but as a former FBI Director he should have known better.

And yet nobody here agrees to that standard. So if the standard is illegality then that is what it is.

I wasn't talking about any standards. I was simply pointing out that you are equating things done by Hunter Biden and things done by the Trump family, which you have denied doing.

I can agree with that but then his judgement was already seriously tarnished following decisions he made, as a then current FBI director, that carelessly interfered in the final days of a presidential election.

Two cases. Two different fact patterns. I think I have repeatedly pointed that out. Each should be judged on its own merits. That is why standards are important.

Yeah. There shouldn't be any whataboutism and hypotheticals when a sitting president has reportedly raked in $3 billion, so far, in pay-to-play schemes, and is accepting a $400 million airplane from Qatar. This is happening in the open. This is happening on an unprecedented scale.

Before Trump, the Emoluments Clause at least carried some weight, and restrained office holders, even if not perfectly. Trump has smashed through guardrails, loudly and proudly revealing that he does not care, while his supporters cheer him on, and his more timidly distanced enablers play what-about games.

    Trump should be impeached for:

1.) Using the antiquated Alien Enemies Act (which is in now way applicable) to deport people to a gulag in El Salvador.
2.) Turning ICE into an unaccountable gestapo that carries our illegal arrest.
3.) Creating DOGE and allowing it to repeatedly and purposefully violate federal law and statues in closing down departments and slashing programs.
4.) Illegally impounding money approved by congress for expenditures.
5.) Trying to unconcionably stirp the federal government of all diversity initiatives.
6.) Illegally changing tariffs he has no power to set.
7.) Rank corruption with his "meme coin" scam so that he can fill his coffers with foreign money.
8.) Rank corruption with his business raking in millions from foreign governments in violation of the emoluments clause.
    9.) Purposefully violating court orders.

.... this list can go on for a while. None of that is even arguable. If we had a functioning country and congress, this troglodyte would have long ago been in jail.

10, Giving DOGE access to and allowing DOGE to download and store protected personal confidential information of everyone in the country.

I read a comment on social media, expressing how this person would enthusiastically vote for a presidential candidate who stands at the podium and declares, on Day One, they will have Trump arrested and tried for human trafficking. You can pick and choose the crimes being committed to apply that sentiment. And, oh boy, the level of wrongdoing being done very loudly sounds the alarm that these are people who confidently expect they will never have to face consequences.

    Works for me.

Another example of the GOP "It's OK when we do it" philosophy.

    as always

And not that it would have make it any difference but they'll claim that's different because it wasn't the FBI director posting it

I'd argue it's different. Former FBI Director is miles different than Joe down the street.

That said, they're all still hypocrites.
    That I get

I meant that if the former FBI director posted 8646 during Biden's admin MAGA wouldn't care or have an issue with it

But you knew all this already - and are just gaslighting. Funny how you are willing to spread any unsubstantiated rumor about Biden but almost demands a confession from Trump before accepting any kind of malferance by him.

It's because he is a right wing troll, they are disingenuous gaslighters by design...

Donald Trump has claimed a social media post by the former FBI director James Comey was a call for the president’s assassination.

On Thursday Comey posted a picture of seashells spelling out the numbers “8647,” which has been construed by some as a reference to the 47th president – Trump – and the term “86,” which is commonly used in bars and restaurants and means to cancel an order or toss someone out.

“He knew exactly what that meant. A child knows what that meant,” Trump told Fox News host Bret Baier in an interview on Friday. “If you’re the FBI director and you don’t know what that meant, that meant ‘assassination.’ It says that loud and clear.”

The president called him a “dirty cop” and said he will leave a decision on whether to prosecute him over the post to Attorney General Pam Bondi…..
