Trump threatens to withhold federal funding from universities that allow protests (10 Viewers)

Apart from this being a blatant First Amendment violation and highly fascist - the craziest thing about this whole "the president can cut off all federal funding for anything at any time" is that its going to come back around - and the next president will have a different agenda and do the same thing. It's illegal and just a terrible way to run a country.

The bolded part isn't really true. Democratic presidents never go after red states or conservative outlets the way that Republican presidents go after blue states and what they perceive as liberal or progressive. It's very asymmetric and it's been like that for a long time. Republicans are always seemingly out for vengeance.

I don't think we have seen anything even close to how Trump is asserting this (unlawful) power of freezing all federal funding to force states and other non-governmental actors to follow his orders. Either it ends with the courts stepping in and ending it, like they should, or I don't think we ever go back. It will become the new normal.

The next Democrat president will freeze all federal funding for any state that has an anti-abortion statute.

I can't see that ever happening, even if Trump is successful in everything he's doing. Dems just aren't willing to go as far as Republicans are.

Maybe if Dems were willing to go that far, Republicans would be more reticent in pushing some of the extreme things they're doing now. But since it's so asymmetric, they don't really have any concerns.

Because Dems are the nice guys who play by the rules

That is how these things go these days. And if a future Dem POTUS does that, Republicans will whine and complain about how unfair and partisan it is. They will have protests and rally’s and fund raisers to “take our country back”. Then we will have yet another election that will be sold as “the most important election in our lifetime”.

Normal people don’t win elections anymore.

Nothing Democrats will do will be as extreme as what Republicans and Trump have done in the past 2 months. They will have to rebuild the country/government first if we're able to maintain our constitutional republic for the next 4 years.

Not one thing Biden did approaches the level of executive overreach that Musk and Trump of undertaken. The two sides aren't the same.

6-3 SCOTUS, Roe v Wade overturned plus we are here today because the Dems played by the rules. Fork with the both sides bullshirt. Should have expanded the Supreme Court when there is a chance to do it.

You ignore reality in place of what you want to believe. You probably still believe Republicans are better for the economy too, despite all the evidence to the contrary.

It makes we want to throw up in my mouth when people say that Trump and Musk are good because "they're going to run the government like a business" - they don't know what they're doing. They're running the government like a really poorly run business.
