This is going to need a thread as we move forward - there are now clear signs that Trump supports a new, critical if not dubious approach on vaccination, and his HHS nominee RFK Jr. regularly espouses eating raw milk and raw meat . . . dietary components most experts agree are more dangerous than their heated counterparts.

Health is certainly one of those areas were anti-institutionalism and turning to popular influencers over medical science comes with genuine risk of harm.

Today Trump provided his most clear indication that he is a vaccine skeptic - claiming (falsely of course) that the USA doesn't "do as well" as other nations that use no vaccines at all.

Not the only cabinet member Mitch has voted against. I'm wondering if he's harboring any regrets for not convicting Trump in the aftermath of Jan. 6, or if these are just symbolic protests and he's generally content with how things have worked out for his party.

I think it's purely because (1) he no longer has to run anymore and (2) has genuinely-felt concerns about going to Hell.

Welp. This is just another in a long line of unqualified, morally bankrupt people Trump has attracted and is turning over the government to.

He’s got very little interest in governing, he only wants the power and the pomp. When he was in the Oval Office recently to swear in Gabbard, he rambled on for a while, then forgot why he was there and tried to walk out without swearing her in.

He is putting truly evil people in place to do damage to this country. All we can do is hope the damage can be reversed at some time in the future.

If we all don’t die because of his appointments.

Louisiana’s Department of Health (LDH) “will no longer promote mass vaccination” according to a memo sent out by the state’s top health official on Thursday shortly after vaccine sceptic Robert F Kennedy Jr was confirmed by the Senate as Donald Trump’s new Health and Human Services Secretary.

In the memo addressed to all “LDH Team Members”, the southern state’s Surgeon General Ralph Abraham, former Republican congressman, ordered his staff to stop engaging with media campaigns and community efforts to encourage vaccinations, despite Louisiana recently suffering a particularly harsh flu season.

“The State of Louisiana and LDH have historically promoted vaccines for vaccine preventable illnesses through our parish health units, community health fairs, partnerships and media campaigns,” Abraham wrote, according to a copy of the memo obtained by CNN.

“While we encourage each patient to discuss the risks and benefits of vaccination with their provider, LDH will no longer promote mass vaccination.”……..

It looks like it's specifically the Covid-19 vaccines at this point - https://www.whitehouse.gov/presiden...-ending-covid-19-vaccine-mandates-in-schools/ - which is not directly as bad as if it were the measles vaccine, for example.

But "not as bad" does not mean good, or even OK of course. Covid has, unfortunately, not stopped being potentially harmful (sometimes, if rarely, fatally) to children through the power of wishful thinking. And undermining confidence in one vaccine risks - and in this case, it's a demonstrably high risk given what we're already seeing with measles - undermining confidence in other vaccines.

    And that does kill children.

To add to that, there's another executive order from a couple of days ago:

A lot of that is, on the face of it, sensible stuff. But not if it's driven by prejudiced and irrational beliefs about vaccines. In that context, the phrase "over-utilization of medication" becomes loaded. Especially since the order notably avoids referring in any way to vaccination, despite it being a fundamental principle of keeping a nation healthy.

Never forget how Republicans reacted to Michelle Obama's radical agenda of eating healthy and exercise.
To meet our goal, we must accelerate implementation of successful strategies that will prevent and combat obesity. Such strategies include updating child nutrition policies in a way that addresses the best available scientific information, ensuring access to healthy, affordable food in schools and communities, as well as increasing physical activity and empowering parents and caregivers with the information and tools they need to make good choices for themselves and their families. They will help our children develop lifelong healthy habits, ensuring they reach their greatest potential toward building a healthier and more prosperous America.
Now, Republicans want us all to believe that it is completely rational to substitute vaccinations for raw milk! :9:

    :freak7:

We currently have a measles outbreak that started in TX and has now spread to a bordering state. There is another Ebola outbreak currently in Africa. The bird flu, H5N1, is getting a bit concerning with its spread through dairy herds, chickens and wildlife. There have been zoo animals euthanized because of it too. Oh and there’s a TB outbreak near Kansas City. And it’s one of the more severe influenza seasons.

This is a really bad time to cripple the CDC. They would normally fly folks out to Africa to make sure the Ebola outbreak was contained. They would send epidemiological help to all the local areas that are enduring disease outbreaks. We don’t know who is left, or what they are doing.

    People will die.

And yet all the things he is doing to cause more pollution and less safe environments counteract this. The whole abortion thing is adding far more to it. How can you fix this when you're directly causing it? This is going to get ugly and stupid as a bag of hammers.

Or a sack of doorknobs/bag of hair.

    We can’t fix stupid.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. warned agency staff to either “embrace” the Trump administration’s changes or plan to retire.

In his first address since being sworn in, Kennedy outlined his vision for the department he now leads at HHS headquarters on Tuesday, days after hundreds of probationary employees were terminated.

Those layoffs, part of a Department of Government Efficiency-led effort to reduce spending in part by shrinking the federal workforce, include an estimated 1,300 purged from the Center for Disease Control - 10 percent of its workforce.……

After saying during his confirmation hearings that he wasn’t going to do anything to thwart the normal childhood vaccinations, RFK, Jr said during his remarks that he now plans to scrutinize the childhood vaccination schedule.

    Measles and whooping cough approve.
