    Following the Project 2025 playbook, in the last week, Trump and his newly installed loyalists have moved to (1) dismiss federal officials deemed unreliable to do his bidding (including 17 inspectors general) - many of which have protections from arbitrary dismissal, (2) freeze all science and public health activity until he can wrest full control, (3) freeze all federal assistance and grant activity deemed inconsistent with Trump's agenda, and (4) moved to terminate all federal employee telework and DEI programs.

    The problem is much of this is controlled by federal law and not subject to sudden and complete change by the president through executive order. Most notably is the Impoundment Control Act of 1974 that simply codifies what is the constitutional allocation of resources where Congress appropriates money to the executive branch for a specific purpose, the executive branch must carry out that statutory purpose. This is indeed a constitutional crisis and even if Congress abdicates to Trump by acquiescing, the courts must still apply the law - or rule it unconstitutional.

    And meanwhile the architect of much of this unlawful action is Russell Vought, Trump’s OMB nominee who the Senate appears ready to confirm.

    The email instructs employees of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (Fema) to cease calling undocumented immigrants “migrants” and instead call them “aliens”. It also directs employees to replace “gender” with “sex”.

    The email came just days after Donald Trumpsigned an executive order titled Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government.

    That order instructs federal employees to remove “all radical gender ideology guidance, communication, policies, and forms”.

    The email was sent to Fema employees in the recovery division of Region 9, which is responding to the Los Angeles wildfires. It includes specific language about how Fema officials should handle immigration: “While the following chart presents examples of terminology that should be replaced, it should not be considered to be comprehensive, particularly in the immigration space.” A chart which follows directs employees to replace words like “integration” with “assimilation”.

    In southern California, where residents hail from across the world, one in three Angelenos identifies as an immigrant……..

    Possibly, he could be talking out his arse it wouldn’t be the first time. However, his minions have been in the various depts for days already. It was reported early on that they immediately gained access to computer systems, and were changing code.

    I don’t believe Treasury sources who say they will only have read access now, days after they’ve been in there mucking around. For all we know they now have a back door to all those systems.

    Besides, what is the justification for giving these minions access at all? They’re Musk’s guys, not public servants.

    It's complete forking nonsense. We're having to waste time modifying contracts to remove or "correct" the language in the contract. It's the dumbest time-wasting thing I've ever seen in government. Republicans ought to be ashamed at how our tax dollars are being wasted on this sheet.

    Oh they definitely have a back door and probably can completely control the payment system by now. It is reported that they have changed the code base.

    They also deleted a bunch of climate data from NOAA.

    Hmmm...no warning about big weather events beforehand....no FEMA to help afterwards.

    Those gulf states who supported him are gonna need those things the most.

    Think what you want. People who work at these offices and do these jobs daily are reporting that the code base has changed.

    I believe them WAY more than I believe President Musk or VP Trump.

    They DEFINITELY have removed information from web sites that used to provide important info to the public. They are just scrubbing out anything that doesn't identify with their climate change denying and LGBTQ+ hatred. For a start anyway....who knows what comes next.
     
    So we got the formal notification that the deadline has been extended to Monday pursuant to the District Court of Massachusetts granting a request to stay the deadline.

    Today there likely will be some heated discussions about the RTO on Monday. We're running about a thousand seats short of the office space needed to accommodate 100% or near 100% of employees in office. Apparently, the EO doesn't allow for rotating days, so select teams are having to split days in half, 4 hours in office and 4 hours at home and rotate every day. It's all very inefficient and a lot of time will be wasted on set up and break down.

    They claim to want to run the government like a business, and then do the opposite. Madness.

    Many will be sharing desks and office space. It's gonna be a mess and a lot of employees aren't happy with the EO, including people who support Trump. These idiots never heard of phasing in and giving time to plan a transition. It's like a gnat trying to swallow an elephant.

    Oh...and fork every last person who voted for Trump. You all are idiots.

    Also, I would just add that every politician saying the offices have been empty since Covid...they are lying their arses off. The offices have been running a minimum 25% and closer to 50% for years. Each of our programs have long been required to have a certain number of personnel in office at a given time. The whole RTO thing is a charade.

    Also, Elon has said he has stopped payments to people already, which is obviously impossible if you only have read only access. And there are a lot of government contractors who have said already approved invoices are not being paid (source am married to a government contractor who has had payments delayed). Clearly someone with more than read only access is doing something.
