Someone on Twitter said they think this indicates Putin now thinks Trump will lose the election for sure or he wouldn’t have made this deal. 😁

Trump will just claim this was a bad deal (giving 2-1) and that he would have gotten 1-1.

This deal was in the works for months from what is being said. It probably had more to do with Putin showing strength and getting support than what Trump is doing.
To do a prisoner exchange, the person has to be convicted and that is likely why Evan’s trial happened recently.

Putin will play it off as strength, but all of the people he's getting back are arms dealers and intelligence operatives from what I've seen. I think Putin is desperate to get all hands on deck, because of the situation in Ukraine and what just happened to the Russian mercenaries in Mali. The Russian war machine is taking a beating.

Great speech by Biden. Speaking on exactly why diplomacy and having allies is far more important than going it alone. Hostages from the US, Germany, and Russian citizens were freed.

People will complain about who were returned to Russia. But in situations like this, it's never going to be a win-win. Someone's going to have an advantage in the end and unfortunately, Putin had the cards.

It's not really that Putin has all the cards, it's just that he cares less about the people and more about exacting a high a price as possible. You can tell that for Biden, his administration and the other western countries that participated in this deal, their priority was securing the release of citizens and people that were innocent and suffering unjustly in Russian prison solely due to the malice of Putin and his government. For Putin, the main objective was securing the release of criminals who were the most contemptible and guilty of their crimes and making the US and other western countries pay a high a price as possible for their citizens release. He doesn't actually care about the Russians that were released as part of the deal, that's just ancillary.

If soleless and uncaring is what translates to holding all the cards, then Putin will always have that hand.
