Assassination attempt on Trump (3 Viewers)

Users who are viewing this thread

A classmate, in a segment just now on the news, described the shooter as a loner and said "he was bullied so much." A description from other shooting incidents we're all too familiar with. Whatever motives might be uncovered, this is another tragic reminder of how often boys and young men are being failed in this country, and the inclination for those who suffer to act out violently.
I saw that too, but since then I saw this from CBS where they interviewed 3 former classmates and only that one thought he was bullied.

If it comes out this dude was some kind of groyper. I expect an apology.

You don't know how to debate. You have no idea how to formulate, and articulate a counter argument.

It's funny that you didn't realize you follow the same posting pattern when you don't want to answer a question and you get frustrated.

    Come up with something new.

If it turns out this is political - he fits the groyper profile exactly.

There was a lot of progress and success in addressing bullying before Trump's presidency. I can tell you from personal expierence with my kid that all of that dissappeared during Trump’s presidency and the environment in many schools deteriorated significantly as the environment in our country changed for the worse.

Interesting but depending on school size and other considerations, wouldn't surprise me that perspectives would vary. I also think some kids can be in denial about what is cruelty and what is normal.

Bottomline is that a 20 year old doesn't pick up a rifle and start shooting into a crowd unless a lot has gone wrong in their young life. Bullying / domestic abuse can result in kids ending up in online spaces or other social circles where they end up radicalized. So it's certainly likely to be a culmination of experiences and influences.

I'm just guessing this is going to have a lot more to do with anger than politics. It's possible we'll never really know if he didn't leave a clear enough trail behind (I haven't really heard anything to that point).

May have been posted but I didn't see it, apparently he posted it after Biden's speech today.

I've gained that impression from others, too. I hope your kid is doing better and wish you both well.

Would you say a 2-3 point bump, because that’s what I’m feeling this will lead to.

I think the Biden debate and Trump fist pump/"fight" combo pushes the odds significantly in Trump's favor. A 2-3 point bump decides Penn, Mich, Wisc. Trump already leads those states by 1-2 points. Biden likely has more support than the polls so the 1-2 margin is actually even in my guess. Trump moving to a 3-5% poll lead in those states makes it Trump's race to lose. Also, a shooting in Penn makes it a local issue.

I hope the FBI releases his browsing history soon. I understand they have to make sure he acted alone, but once that's done. Let's see those links.

SFL, do you think it's possible this guy did it for non Political reasons? the guy who shot Reagan did not do it for any political reasons. sometimes people are crazy disturbed mentally ill, whatever you want to call it..
do you think it's possible, or are you gonna hang on to the "he donated to a liberal PAC" as for your sole source of political motivation?

Yeah.. The two biggest moments of the campaign so far are Biden looking weak during the debate and Trump looking strong as shirt right here after someone tried to shoot him in the head.

I'm honestly moving into territory where I'd be more surprised if Biden won this year than I was when Trump won in 2016. Still a ways to go and who the hell exactly knows, but yeah..

This is looking more and more that the shooter wasn't motivated by left leaning political ideology. Definitive links would have been found by now.

Not that it will stop Republicans from blaming Democrats. Never let a crisis go to waste and all that.

Abbate said that they had “some limited insights into recent communications that he’s made, text and phone call detail information.” That information has thus far not “revealed anything with regard to motive or the involvement or knowledge of anyone else” in the shooting, Abbate said.

I think people get way too caught up in whatever is happening in the current moment. The only thing Trump has done in weeks to gain any positive attention for himself is get shot. He'll get a boost that might last up until the DNC (if they can avoid kneecapping themselves).

I think this election is going to be a lot less about swaying people, one way or the other, and a lot more about generating turnout. Biden and Trump are both well known at this point.

I think it's just as likely that the assassination attempt eventually settles in with a lot of people as another reminder of the chaos we are drowning in as long as Trump remains a prominent presence in our lives. I think there is a growing fatigue to all of this - something I pick up on in a lot of the [this lifelong Republican isn't voting for Trump] revelations.

I'm going to disagree somewhat with your framing. I think it's reasonable to believe Trump was a specific target - i.e., he wasn't simply "shooting into a crowd." Of course, the chances of your bullets hitting people in the crowd, especially if you miss, is extremely high and at least 3 people were victims of that. But it appears to me, rather clearly, to be an assassination attempt. Now his motivation? I don't have an opinion on that at this point.
