I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

Just found out we're probably getting around 250 doses as well. We have a call scheduled with LDH this week.

I might be able to get the first shot this Friday. I’m considered front line since we test the specimens. I don’t know if they will have some left for sure, they start vaccinating tomorrow. But even if I can’t get it this week, I should be able to get it before the end of the year.

Y'all saw this kid who plays for Florida basketball collapsed on Saturday from what people are assuming is long term effects from COVID? He's not doing so well. This is terrifying. Especially for something that's no different from the regular old flu.

Same here. They moved our call up to tomorrow so hopefully it's good news and we can get going before the week is out. My clinical staff is set to go first. I'll probably go last, but they might move me up since I'm essential and high risk.

Just rub it in, Mr. Essential!

I'll see if I can sneak you in.
Am I an awful person for saying I'd totally do this if it were actually possible? I'm really ready for a vaccine. When I first thought about it I was all "I'm gonna wait to see how it affects the first people who get it and then decide." Then I realized how willing I was to torture my body with drugs and alcohol, fast food and preservatives and all kinds of pesticides, etc. and I'm worried about something that'll keep me from getting an awful virus? Ok, dummy. I'll get it as fast as I can.

I couldn’t fault you for wanting to. I am on an immunosuppressant, and in a decisively anti-mask area - I’d love to have the extra peace of mind even though there are others certainly well deserving of being ahead of me in line.

Everyone is deserving of this vaccine. It’s just a time thing, time to make it and time to distribute it. It’s impossible to actually make a complete and fair ranking system to decide who gets it when.

JRad, if I could give you my doses, I would. There’s a certain randomness even though they are trying to have a system. Talk to your physician to make sure they realize you want to get it ASAP.

Good for everyone who didn't feel obligated to attend the Pompeo Super-spreader Event now that he's about to be out of office and they don't have to worry about being fired for insubordination.

Good God, could Pompeo be any bigger of an butt crevasse? He should be liable for dmages to anyone who got infected at his stupid Christmas party last night. (Apparently on 70 or so people out of 800+ showed up.)

Senate Republican Whip John Thune (S.D.), a member of the Senate Finance Committee, told reporters Wednesday the stimulus checks will be $600 to $700 per individual.”

Thune said he expects the package to provide $300 a week in supplemental federal unemployment assistance through March and confirmed that it would not include additional state and local aid funding.

He said the plan for the House to act on the combined COVID relief-omnibus spending package first and send it to the Senate to pass before the Friday night deadline.

In a win for Republicans, the cost of the COVID-relief portion of the package is below $1 trillion, an upper boundary set by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Senate Republicans earlier this year.

While the package does not include the $160 billion tranche for state and local government, a person familiar with the negotiations says it includes “other avenues to deliver aid to states, localities, territories and tribes” and emphasized the McConnell did not get the liability provisions he said earlier this year would be part of any deal.

“We made major headway toward hammering out a targeted pandemic relief package that would be able to pass both chambers with bipartisan majorities,” McConnell announced on the Senate floor Wednesday morning.

I was upset that the unemployment wouldn't fill the gap left since the end of July, but the stimulus payment will help recoup what I lost out on then.

    Finally good progress?

    Looks like it.

Anyone on here know how you go about changing your bank account information that you have on file with the IRS? I went and tried to do it a few weeks ago and was utterly unsuccessful. It was so frustrating that I wanted to poke my own eyes out.

Here's a pretty funny parody of the audio of Tom Cruise going off on people on the set of the movie he's making for not following guidelines for COVID safety.

Owe them money, I'm sure they'll get it corrected quickly.

But no, I don't offhand. This made me realize I've had the same account info as long as I've been getting direct deposit. Yeesh.

good article on the what happened at the CDC
    =================================

ATLANTA — Kyle McGowan, a former chief of staff at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and his deputy, Amanda Campbell, were installed in 2018 as two of the youngest political appointees in the history of the world’s premier public health agency, young Republicans returning to their native Georgia to dream jobs.

But what they witnessed during the coronavirus pandemic this year in the C.D.C.’s leadership suite on the 12-floor headquarters here shook them: Washington’s dismissal of science, the White House’s slow suffocation of the agency’s voice, the meddling in its messages and the siphoning of its budget.

In interviews this fall, the pair decided to go public with their disillusionment: what went wrong, and what they believe needs to be done as the agency girds for what could be a yearslong project of rebuilding its credibility externally while easing ill feelings and self-doubt internally.

“Everyone wants to describe the day that the light switch flipped and the C.D.C. was sidelined. It didn’t happen that way,” Mr. McGowan said. “It was more of like a hand grasping something, and it slowly closes, closes, closes, closes until you realize that, middle of the summer, it has a complete grasp on everything at the C.D.C.”

Last week, the editor in chief of the C.D.C.’s flagship weekly disease outbreak reports — once considered untouchable — told House Democrats investigating political interference in the agency’s work that she was ordered to destroy an email showing Trump appointees attempting to meddle with their publication........................

Are we sure about that? If true, then boy does that suck.. i wasnt working for most of the time from Aug-Nov, just recently started back- and was really thinking that whenever a deal was reached, it would be retroactive and help people like me recoup money from when i was furloughed and had to run up credit cards, etc... Also, you think a one-time $600 stimulus will help make up for that??
