I have never done a poll, so here we go

I made only 2 responses. If you want a response of 'I don't care' then don't vote, that will show it.

Just a basic question, who do you support in this soap opera? Do you think the Royal family and new media are the transgressors or do you think Harry and Meghan are on the spoiled side?

I know there are other thoughts and options, but for poll, lets just stick to these too because I have my thoughts on how this will turn out.

The most correct answer is probably screw all of them (could definitely see Meghan being.. difficult) but if you're going to make me pick then I say fork the Royals.
on one side you have the Tudor-Windsor line that's been doing stuff like this for centuries
on the other you have a woman who seems ideally positioned to have the 'hysterical woman' trope thrown at her
a trope that should ring our media literacy alarms just as soon as we hear/see the aspersions
    this ain't calculus

I was surprised at the level of self-awareness from Harry... My sense is that he was never particularly comfortable living the Royal life anyway and he seems to hold both levels of contempt and pity for his family... which I think is understandable if most of what they said in the Oprah interview is true.

The Royal Family mostly seems to be an unnecessary relic of the past consisting of butt crevasses who only get to believe they're this important as a result of their fortune in winning the sperm and egg lottery.

I tend to agree with this. I never got the total obsession that so many folks had over Princess Diana, it is a tragedy what happened to her and all, but why was so much made about here in the US. I'm not trying to be flippant, I just don't get it....

I read something the day after the interview about this and it was the only thing I read but, if accurate, it makes you wonder.

Apparently, as Duke and Duchess, they couldn't have any personal income whatsoever. They've made over $26 million already since "leaving" the Royal family. Apparently, he was left a small fortune from his mum, so it isn't like they need the money but he doesn't seem like he'd be content sitting around drinking tea all day and being a figurehead. Whatever sponsorships or companies they're involved with are making them a lot of money and I doubt they would have come out and said they wanted to leave being royalty so they could become even more rich. But that doesn't mean I think what she says isn't true at all. I don't doubt that their are racists in that family of all families having lived the life of privilege they have since birth and I also believe him when he says it wasn't his grandmother. It was probably the most controversial/easiest for regular people to understand issue of a plethora of issues that made them want to leave so they went with that one publicly.

I'll never understand this fascination with British royalty. I can't believe so many people do.

Agreed. It's almost like we're still a part of the empire or something. Hell, Canadians, which are still a part of the commonwealth of the Tudors, are looking at us like "huh?".

Princess Diana was a compelling story, and figure who came to the US and I thought she was genuinely more interested in people who were suffering than her own position. A lot of people saw how Diana carried herself and loved her for that reason. The fact that she was viewed as somewhat of an outsider in the Royal family just added to her appeal.

That said, Meghan isn't Diana part 2. Not even close.

And fwiw regarding the Royals, I think Queen Elizabeth is doing the best she can in the circumstances she's in. Her job can't be easy juggling all that she has to deal with. I get that it's hard to feel any sort of sympathy for the Crown, but they're people who have problems like everyone else.

I do think it's well past time for the monarchy to go. But, I'm actually surprised it's lasted this long.

I think the folks that obsess over Diana or any of the royals (including a few in my own family) have issues....I honestly couldn't care less about Royals who have mostly been a figurehead for years and don't actually govern in any meaningful way....and here I am....digressing again.....

Lol, and tbh, I didn't ever really give the Royals much thought until watching The Crown on Netflix. It's actually a pretty good show. I have no idea how close to accurate it is from a historical standpoint, but it feels like they did try to stay reasonably close to historical events.

From the show, the Crown was more than just a figurehead and actually held a pretty significant influence over British Parliament. Whether that remains true, I don't know.

I guess in my simple brain, it boils down to either 'tear everything down and destroy history to create a new utopia' or 'everything is fine as is'. Granted this is very simplistic version of a very nuanced conversation.
That's the problem with pretty much every conversation with conservatives these days. Trying to see everything as binary, black and white, this or that, without any nuance whatsoever.

    But we've been over this.

Megan has never been anything but a social climber. How many of those close to her have anything really nice to say about her? Social climbing diva gets her wish and finds hundreds of years of custom and routine don’t bend for her. So she gets all butthurt. Husband who is still screwed up from his mom dying throws everything away to try to make her happy.

Are the Royals Racist, yeah. They are the most elitist group of people in the world.
Not sure why the UK hasn’t put them to out to pasture. They get paid millions of dollars for jack.

I think this is one of those situations where everyone is playing the victim, but there are no actual victims.

The Royal family is most likely racist, no surprise.

Meagan is a social climber and knew exactly what she was getting into, no surprise.

Everyone is who we thought they were.

this was my first time hearing about the "firm" and "HR"

sounds like something out of a political thriller

Are they the true shadowy power behind the royals?
