In a private conversation, the governor’s top aide admitted that data was withheld on nursing homes, where more than 10,000 New Yorkers have died during the pandemic.

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo and his administration faced new allegations on Friday that they had covered up the scope of the coronavirus death toll in New York’s nursing homes, after a top aide to the governor admitted that the state had withheld data because it feared an investigation by the Trump Justice Department.

The remarks by the top aide, Melissa DeRosa, made in what was supposed to be a private conference call with Democratic lawmakers, came as a cascading series of news reports and a court order have left Mr. Cuomo, a third-term Democrat, scrambling to contain the political fallout over his oversight of nursing homes, where more than 13,000 people have died in the pandemic in the state.

Lawmakers from both parties have called for stripping the governor of the emergency powers that he has exercised during the pandemic, while Republicans have demanded the resignations of top Cuomo administration officials and new federal investigations.

If that wasn't bad enough it appears that the Biden DOJ has dropped the investigation:

During Wednesday’s conference call, DeRosa said it appeared the DOJ was no longer focused on New York’s nursing home deaths.

“All signs point to they are not looking at this, they’ve dropped it,” she said.

“They never formally opened an investigation. They sent a letter asking a number of questions and then we satisfied those questions and it appears that they’re gone.”

There actually was guidance put out there by the CDC last summer, but the states and at times the Administration pretty much ignored and even contradicted the guidance given by the CDC. So no, there wasn't zero guidance, but the Administration and other experts from the CDC and other agencies weren't always on the same page.

Also, as much as I hate Trump, and it probably was widow dressing mostly, Trump and the governors did have conference calls to discuss the Covid situation. So there was some coordination. And vaccines were already being deployed at a pretty good clip before Biden took office. So it's not like this all of a sudden started when Biden took office.

Fwiw, some of the governors, both Republicans and Democrats, have handled the Covid crisis terribly, some even criminally. They all should be held accountable.

    Totally agree on the latter.

the former, not so much. You can go look at the original COVID thread on SR.com. We had our POTUS telling us in presser after presser, this was nothing more than the flu and it will magically disappear. Contradicting the CDC - to the point claiming he knew more about it and the scientists at CDC were "amazed" at his knowledge. Unfortunately, he held that same notion when dealing with States. There was ZERO coordination on response. ZERO help- when states asked for PPE, Trump admin ( Kushner ) said "nope- not gonna come from national stockpile" - IIRC MAryland Gov BOUGHT 500,000 n95 masks from S Korea . Nah, i watched all this unfold daily and there was NOTHING the Administration did right ( dont forget the "cover up" Trump did regarding the severity of COVID 19 that he admitted to in taped convos w/ Woodward )

They got better when vaccine roll-out started, no doubt. Yet none of that out-weighs the calamity that was spring 2020 for me.

I was a fan of Cumo because of how open he was to the public.

Turns out he was just better at covering-up than Ron Desantis.

Yeah, me too, and the more that comes out the worse this is looking. I was dead wrong about him. He talked a good game but his actions are looking bottom of the barrel.

Yeah, I'm really disappointed as well. I don't do the both sides thing much, because they're not the same, but in this case...smh.

We're not too far apart. There were are least appearances of coordination. But like I said, more window dressing than anything else.

A lot of Trump's press conferences were a mess. I mean the drinking bleach and other stuff, even said in jest, confused a lot of people. His inconsistency with the seriousness of the virus, and the absolute joke of travel restrictions on China. It was a shirt show. Trump should have just let Fauci and Birx handle the PR for the virus and stayed away from the pressers.

But, the push to get a vaccine came a lot quicker than most expected, and the results are pretty apparent today.

Just my opinion, but credit where it's due and criticism when it's deserved.

Totally agree. He should be punished to the fullest extent, whatever that may be.

Let me be clear that I am in no way excusing Cuomo by any stretch, but this is exactly what happens when leaders fail their duty. Top down.
So many instances where lack of leadership at the very top works its way down the ranks... From corporate to military. When you have no rudder, steering becomes more of a chore.

Again Trump was at the helm and basically told his colonels to do what they wanted. This is the result.

A failure all around and just so sad. Sad we had no leadership, sad that people were put in a position of having to make decisions that were just awful and sad that the end result is what we are talking about here.

    This dude is done.

Another accusation of sexual harassment from a former aide:

Yeah, once you start getting multiple accusations from different people, yikes. I wasn't sure what to think with the first accusation, but others stepping foward...stick a fork in him.

This is disappointing because I wanted to like Cuomo. Ugh.

He should resign, and he should not be elected to any public office again.

He’s been using his power to get arse. He can’t be trusted with power.

Oh, the timing is suspect for sure. But whatever, he's toast now, and Trump isn't President, so I can live with that. :hihi:
My question would be what does Cuomo and the allegations against him have anything to do with the election. If the allegations had come out prior to the election would that have changed the outcome? I see it as yet another demonstration for Democrats to show Trumplicans how you don't let someone get away with committing crimes or sexual misconduct because they have the same letter behind their name.

You don't find anything suspicious about it ?

If you don't think this would have had an affect on the elections if this had come out before, then I don't know what to tell you, but it clearly would have had an impact.

I'm not saying it was intentional though. I don't think the ladies making the accusations intentionally sat on this, so it's a moot point anyway.

You don't find anything suspicious about it ?
    Let's see.....
    • Was Cuomo running for any office? NO.
    • Would the election results have been different if the accusers had come forward with their information prior to the election? NO.
    • Does Cuomo's coverup of the nursing home situation have any impact to ANY election? NO.
    • Should I find anything suspicious about Cuomo's accusers finally coming forward to make their allegations almost 4 months after the election in which Cuomo was not up for reelection in nor running for any elected office? NO.
So in summary, I find the fact that Cuomo's accusers are coming out now as opposed to prior to the election considerably less suspicious than I do someone from the UK using yards as a measurement rather than meters.
