Two weeks ago, Al Qaeda’s Muhammad al-Masri was assassinated in a “brazen” drive-by shooting in Tehran. Analysts believed the incident had all the marks of an operation by Israel’s Mossad. Those suspicions were confirmed by a senior US official speaking to the NYT and Washington Post. (See below).

Analysts believe that the Trump administration may be requesting/demanding a late push for transactional rewards for its pro-Israel policy that has resulted in various benefits including US recognition of Israel settlements as legitimate and the recent “normalization” with UAE.

After the al-Masri assassination, Trump signaled a tough posture on Iran and stories broke that he was considering an attack. As recently as two days ago, the US had repositioned Mid East assets.

And now today, Iran’s top nuclear scientist was assassinated in Iran. Will Iran respond? Will there be more assassinations? What is Trump’s objective?

This is so dangerous. We are poking the bear, and the bear may have some nasty weapons, to include some immature nuclear capability. We are forcing Iran to seek how to protect themselves, and to retaliate, and that will probably lead to more undesirable results. There may be some attacks on Israel as retaliation, and then that will lead to retaliation, and on and on. I don't know if Trump is encouraging this, but he doesn't seem to be discouraging it.

Stepping back for a moment and just looking at it through a lens of US policy, it seems that Trump's Mid East policy is best summarized as a renewed endorsement of Israel as being married to US policy in the region, coupled with an effort to create a new alliance between Israel and Sunni Arab states that can be manipulated through US efforts (UAE, Bahrain, and Saudi). Much of this push has been in the late hours of Trump's administration, but if he thinks he has the pieces in place to make another push to harm Iran, this might be that effort.

I think absolutely Washington is calling the shots here - at least insomuch as Mossad isn't going to be assassinating Iran's top nuclear scientist without direct US endorsement.

What do we gain from manipulating the Sunni Arabs? We don't need their oil.

It's not about oil, it's about Iran. The idea is that a legitimate union of Israel and pro-US Sunni Arab nations further limits Iranian influence in the region and could even support a more aggressive US/Israeli posture toward Iran. It's long been a point of advocacy in the tough-on-Iran policy crowd, and it's true that last month's UAE/Israel "normalization" deal was the product of US activity.

I don't think any of these things is happening independently.

Well now we know why Biden was not allowed NSA briefs til just this week.

Trump is not only stirring up domestic tensions with cries of election fraud, but now kicking a hornets nest in the ME... Both on his way out the door.

I’m not saying I endorse these interests nor will I attempt to defend them. But those are the official US interests in the region and have been for some time now. Obama departed from them to some extent but not in any permanent way.

Those defined interests drive policy and action.

My guess is ‘he’ (whomever is pulling the strings) is trying to force Biden into a pro-Israel position when he takes office

They won't have to pull hard. We are so in bed with Israel we go against our own interest. Saudi Arabi(sunni) is who funded 9/11. It was Pakistan(Sunni again) who was hiding OBL, and funding/training AQ. Yet here we are attacking a bunch of shiites.

Well, this post is just full of stupid. It just illustrates why it is sooo hard to have intelligent discussions with certain people because it seems that they are soo misinformed that they believe actions, as described above, are truly justified.

Audios? Garbage makes recordings? Or do you mean Audi’s the cars are garbage?

What does that have to do with the President elect, Vice President elect and Madame Speaker?

    Your post is confusing.

Any chance you can clarify what you mean when you say Pelosi, Biden, and Harris are 'next' when the thread is about assassinations?
