The football board had the very useful Daily Trump Tracker thread, which was a good place to briefly discuss the latest ridiculous thing that might have ended 97% of prior Presidential administrations even if it didn't necessarily justify an entire thread devoted to it in 2017-2019 (because of the sheer volume of these things). Since I don't see anything like that here already, I'll add one myself.

More sleight of hand from Trump about the wildfires in the West. His primary premise is that these are state problems - and, in fact, if they just would have listened to him (for "the last three years") about forest management these fires wouldn't be happening.

His ideas? Remove fallen trees, clean up the leaves on the forest floor, and cut 50 yard swaths through the forests to act as fire-breaks, like other countries do (according to him). But "they don't do that" - referring, in context, to the "states".

    Let's take a closer look:

The State of California owns about 3% of California's forests. The federal government (primarily though the Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and National Park Service) owns 57% of California's forests. The remaining 40% are privately owned. (Citation below).

In Oregon (where the entire state is 51% federal land), the forests are 60% federally owned, and only 5% state-owned (with the remaining 35% privately owned).

Had Trump been saying that he's been trying to get those federal agencies, who, by the way, have large staffs of highly educated (Ph. D.s), trained, and experienced forestry managers, to adopt his forestry and wildfire mitigation practices (he is a genius after all) and they just weren't listening - then fine. But he isn't saying that, he's saying it's a state problem.

But at least "we are helping them" with FEMA and other response. How nice of you sir. The worst part is that I'm not totally sure if he actually understands the allocation of forestry in the West. I think, in common Trump practice, he has preconceptions in his mind and that's the way it is. These are state problems. Blue state problems at that.

Every domestic problem that requires a solution is a state problem. Wildfires, protests, Covid 19, unemployment, etc etc.

He ran his businesses in the same way. To shield himself from culpability. He invents these layers so that when failure comes (and it routinely does) he can point to a lower layer to say that's where it happened.

Ahhhh we only have 55 more days of this. Unfortunately its like that last hour of a really slow work day... Last hour feels like 4hrs lol

He takes all of the credit and none of the blame. The antithesis of a Leader.

“I’m right, you’re wrong” and if you do what he says and it fails (We Build the Wall is the latest example) then “I don’t know anything about that”

    Classic narcissism.

It looks like a lot of the social media attacks on Biden are more about him having "handlers" that will corrupt the office. i.e. Biden is a puppet and everyone around him is evil. And this comes from Trump's Tweets on the subject, of course.

Is that because they can't directly attack Biden as a person?

Is that because Trump has a lot of handlers (that he mostly ignores) and is projecting?

When did Kamala Harris become ultra left?

Donald Trump has sharpened his criticism of Kamala Harris, calling the California senator and vice-presidential nominee a “super liberal wack job” while suggesting Joe Biden would not complete a full term if elected.
The president claimed in a Monday morning tweet that Mr Biden’s alleged “handlers” and “the Fake News Media” were doing “everything possible to get him through the Election [sic],” adding: “Then he will resign, or whatever, and we are stuck with a super liberal wack job that NOBODY wanted!”
Mr Trump has continued to rail against the Democratic presidential nominee and his running mate, painting the two as figureheads of the far left — despite much of the Democratic Party viewing Mr Biden and Ms Harris as centrist picks to lead the ticket.

This was an interesting thread. Guy breaks down every stock image or old
Footage used to cobble together this commercial. There are suspicions floating around about the campaign’s dwindling resources and something with this low production values makes me think it could be a cost cutting measure. In any event, from a media making perspective it was an interesting breakdown

    Is anyone buying this tweet?

Democrats put out a much larger stimulus package than the Senate Republicans have countered with TWICE.

The The Problem Solvers Caucus just worked out a compromise plan, that's about 1.5 Trillion. Here's the link. He could have just said, "I support this new plan, let's help the American people"

The bipartisan proposal would grant another round of $1,200 stimulus checks for most Americans, a popular idea backed by both the Democrats and Trump. And it would revive expired supplemental unemployment insurance at $450 per week for the first eight weeks, then provide up to $600 per week after that but capped at 100 percent of a person’s salary. Pelosi wants $600 a week in boosted insurance; the White House has offered $300 per week.

The package also includes $100 billion for COVID-19 testing, contact tracing and other health efforts; $25 billion for rental and mortgage assistance to stave off evictions across the country; and new money for schools, small businesses, food aid, elections and the Postal Service.

Funding for cash-strapped cities, counties and states has been one of the biggest sticking points in the talks. The Problem Solvers have proposed $500 billion to shore up state and local governments and avert mass layoffs of police, firefighters and other public employees.

So, he's blaming the Democrats, but telling Republicans to offer more money. Feels like he's a day late to the party. Or trying to throw the Democrats under the bus for while the Republicans were the problem.

Also shows that deficit spending doesn't matter.

How many people are going to eat this up?

To be fair, the book does concern the one thing Trump is deeply interested in. Himself.
I thought about that too but still don't believe for a second he's read a word of it. I'm more than willing to believe he had staffers read the book and take notes for him to use to hate on the book that has 18 hours of recorded interviews (or maybe more or less, I think they just said 18 interviews).

    Today I Learned:

Heat Rays exist and the Trump Administration looked into using one against peacefully protesting American citizens
    ============================================================================

(CNN)Federal officials looked into getting a heat ray that makes targets' skin feel like it's burning and amassed thousands of rounds of ammunition in preparation for clearing a peaceful protest in Lafayette Square in June, according to written House testimony from an Army National Guard major who was at the scene.

Maj. Adam DeMarco described such preparations -- including officials' failure to acquire a loud announcement device for warning protesters to disperse -- in an August letter responding to follow-up questions after he testified before the House Committee on Natural Resources in June about federal officers' efforts earlier that month. DeMarco, who described himself as one of the senior National Guard officials on the scene, ran as a Democrat for Maryland's 3rd Congressional District in 2018.

News of the contents of DeMarco's letter was first reported by NPR.

In the letter, DeMarco wrote that the Defense Department's head military police officer for the National Capitol Region emailed him and others on the day of the protests asking if the DC National Guard had "a Long Range Acoustic Device," which can blast walls of sound at protesters, or "the Active Denial Systems," which feature "a directed energy beam that provides sensation of intense heat on the surface of the skin."..................
