Republican Rep. Dave Joyce not only refused to condemn Trump’s recent statement calling for the Constitution to be suspended, the congressman said he would still support the former president should he become the GOP presidential nominee in 2024. In case the representative needs a reminder, he swore in his oath of office to “uphold and defend” the Constitution. And most of those have said something has been more of the same mild mannered rebukes they've always given Trump when a response is unavoidable

Much of the national non-MAGA press is interviewing political leaders especially Republican leaders to get their reaction. Summarizing interviews with Pence, Barr, McCarthy and others I get a weird feeling that while they are aghast that Trump would say this in public, they pass if off as "It's just Trump being Trump." As if Trump is not the leader of the Republican party and its only current presidential candidate. Some discount Trump's statement "because he could never pull that off by himself." So far, every Republican interviewed including Bill Barr and Pence say that if Trump is the candidate they will work to help get him elected. So, the Republican response so far is essentially "He may try to destroy our democracy and fight to become President for Life, but he is a Republican and our first loyalty is to the Republican party over our loyalty to the America and the constitution. Nobody could have predicted that Donald Trump could have convinced 30 million citizens that the election was "rigged and stolen and convinced thousands of everyday American citizens that they had to come to Washington and "Take Back America" from the government and stop anybody but Trump from becoming president. If Trump wanted to break into the museum where the US Constitution is on display and burn it, I believe that with enough time and money he could convince his 30 million devoted believes to come armed to Washington to help him do so. Especially if he Fox News was granted exclusive coverage.
"I don't want to terminate the Constitution. I just want to terminate the things it says!"Former president Donald Trump claimed on Monday that he never advocated for an end to America’s constitution despite having called for its’ “termination” just days ago.
On Saturday, the twice-impeached ex-president took to his Truth Social platform to argue that social media platforms’ work with 2020 presidential campaigns (including his own) amounted to “MASSIVE & WIDESPREAD FRAUD & DECEPTION in working closely with Big Tech Companies, the DNC, & the Democrat Party.” He also asked if the US should somehow discard the results of the election he lost or call a new election even though neither course is allowed under US law.
He continued his post by claiming that the “Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude” can permit the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution”.
The suggestion that the US Constitution should be terminated was met with widespread backlash, including from members of his own party.
Apparently in reaction to the criticism, Mr Trump took to Truth Social again on Monday to claim he’d never said what he’d said two days before.
He claimed that news organisations, who have accurately reported his words (which are still posted on Truth Social,” are “actually trying to convince the American People that I said I wanted to ‘terminate’ the Constitution” and called the accurate reporting of statements he has posted to the internet “disinformation and lies”............
The devil's in the details"I don't want to terminate the Constitution. I just want to terminate the things it says!"
Did he though? or is just the latest thing, as in 'is the thing that finally turns people away from Trump'?
Most of the right (who are supposed to love to constitution above all else) have been suspiciously silent
And most of those have said something has been more of the same mild manner rebukes they've always given Trump when a response is unavoidable

Donald Trump has been on a political suicide mission for a while now, but despite all his efforts he still has some substantial (if slipping) amount of political support. His biggest mistake up until now was to attack popular winners like Kemp and DeSantis. But apparently, the loss of support stemming from those mistakes was insufficient to knock himself out of the running for president.
Apparently, that seems to bother him. Like his friend Kanye “Ye” West, Trump has decided to see how insane he can act before his support collapses entirely.
It’s like a social science experiment with 350 million participants. Researchers are asking: just how batsh!t crazy does a person have to be to lose 95% of their fans? For some reason, Trump has decided to participate as the experimental subject.
Trump’s latest foray into losing all support and credibility is his attack on the Constitution itself. Like, literally, calling for the suspension of the Constitution in order to reinstall him as President of the United States.
Let’s look at this both politically and ethically and think about what he is saying.
POLITICALLY
There are several obvious things about Trump’s statement that are simply politically stupid. Like, really really stupid. Assuming there were no legal or ethical barriers to either calling a new election or suspending the Constitution (stay with me here, I know that is insane!), it is still politically stupid.
America is facing huge economic problems, international problems, and huge internal divisions that are tearing the country apart. Nobody but a small fringe wants to re-litigate the 2020 elections. Not only is that intuitively obvious, the 2022 midterm elections put an exclamation point on that fact. Candidates that looked back to the 2020 elections lost, those who looked forward to solving problems won...........
Trump commits political suicide

1. The MilitaryIf the Constitution is suspended/terminated, who/what installs anyone as president? And president of what?
.
Side note: ironic as much as some of those whack jobs berate Mexicans, how would love the current Mexican government lead by Lopez Obrador and his political party; the MX government have given the military control over every port (air, sea), infrastructure project, and an amendment was just passed to put the National Guard under the command of the military, and have the military police the population. To top it off, they are trying to do away with INE, which is an independent branch that oversees all elections, and make elections be run by the party in charge.1. The Military
You have to wonder what that republic would look. Texas and California would most likely declare their independence and take a huge chunk of the military with them; NYSE and NASDAQ would crash... and what makes them think that the military would support Trump, and not just take over themselves?2.
