Republicans in the Texas state legislature have voted to advance a bill containing an amendment that seems designed to prevent a Democrat from ever winning a state office.
In short, the amendment would require a candidate win a majority of the counties, with each county awarding one vote to the winner for each state office.
To tell you how ridiculous this is. If you take the population of the smallest 128 counties in the state (1 more than half), and consider a candidate receiving 51% of the vote in each county…based on voter turnout rates in Texas in 2020, 750 votes out of the roughly 2 million votes in Texas would decide those state offices.

Texas GOP amendment would stop Democrats winning any state election
A Texas Republican proposal would require anyone holding statewide office to have the support of a majority of Texas counties.
